A/N: I always picture Luna connecting with many different people and on different levels. I can see her having a bond with Snape because I feel that he is also horribly misunderstood. This story shows how Harry discovered the strange bond between Loony Lovegood(Merlin I hate that name) and the Head of Slytherin house.

Harry slowly trudged down the hall, making as little noise as possible. It was past curfew, after all. He had been having trouble sleeping, so he had grabbed his invisibility cloak and headed out for a walk through the corridors.

Suddenly, a noise up ahead made Harry stop. He looked up and saw Luna Lovegood dreamily walking towards him. What was she doing up at this hour? Harry sucked in his breath and was about to call out to her before he remembered that he was under the in viability cloak. Luna looked up and appeared to be staring right at him, as if he wasn't invisible. She then look passed him and a smile crossed her features.

Harry spun around to see what she was smiling at. He was just able to jump out of the way as Snape walked briskly past. Harry wanted to help Luna. He knew, from personal experience, how harsh Snape could be when you were at the receiving end of his wrath. But, he knew that it was too late. Wait a minute, had she been smiling at him?

"Hello, Professor." Luna said dreamily as Snape approached her. She had stopped walking and was now staring up at Snape.

"Lovegood," Snape growled, "What are you doing out past curfew?"

Luna sighed and her gaze faltered for a moment. "I wanted to wait until my Common Room was empty."

"And why is that?" Snape demanded.

"Because my mattress seems to have disappeared so I decided I would sleep on a couch in the Common Room."

"Oh, Luna!" Snape exclaimed. Had Snape just called Luna by her first name? Was that pity that Harry detected in his usually cold voice? Luna shrugged in response.

"Why doesn't bloody Flitchwick do anything about this?" Snape questioned the young witch.

"If I was in Slytherin, what would you do?"

Snape looked sheepish for a moment. It was strange to see Snape's face display any emotion other than hatred and loathing.

Luna nodded to his unspoken words. "Exactly. There's nothing to be done. Plus, I have friends in Gryffindor, Severus." Luna reached out a small hand and placed it on Snape's arm. This was a lot for Harry to take in all at one time. Snape had called Luna by her first name. Luna had called Snape by his. She had placed a comforting arm on him.

"Ah yes, Potter, Granger, Longbottom and the Weasleys. What a nice little group of friends?" Snape said sarcastically. Luna's hand appeared to tighten on his arm and Snape physically winced. Luna released her grip.

"Their names are Harry, Hermione, Neville, Ron and Ginny, thank you very much." Luna replied coldly. Then, her tone softened. "Severus, they mean a lot to me. I'm not asking you to be nice, or even to be civil, I just wish you would accept them. They are kind and nice to me, they're first friends I've ever had at Hogwarts, excluding you and Remus."

Snape nodded at this, though he didn't look pleased.

"I think the Common Room should be empty now. Goodnight, Severus."

"Goodnight, Luna". Snape sighed as Luna stood on her tiptoes to give him a kiss on the cheek. Snape put his arms around her slim waist for a quick hug. Harry gaped at them as Luna gave his arm one more pat and continued her way down the hall, Snape going the opposite way. She had the same dreamy smile on her face and as she looked where Harry stood, his jaw practically reaching the floor, her smile seemed to intensify. As Luna continued past Harry, he could have sworn he saw her wink in his direction.
