Summary: No words were necessary. It didn't matter what her troubles were, because he would always know how to deal with them.
Serene
Taichi tried to hide his surprise when he opened his door and found her sitting on the floor just outside his dorm room. She was sweaty, breathing heavily, and dressed in athletic wear. He assumed she had just arrived from an evening jog.
She rose to her feet at the sound of his presence. No words were exchanged as she walked right past him and entered his room. He took careful notice of her strained features. He was sure she hadn't been crying, but she was unquestionably troubled.
He turned back around and closed the door behind him.
Sora had taken to lying down on his bed. She rested on her side, looking up at him with almost child-like eyes. He sat down beside her.
"Talk to me, Taichi," she requested, "Just talk."
Taichi clasped her hand in his. Her breathing was erratic.
"Close your eyes," he spoke, "I'm here with you. Take calm, easy breaths."
Her breathing eased and her muscles relaxed. He extended her palm in his hands to just beyond his lap, and traced over her forearm with his fingers as it soothed her into relaxation.
She whimpered at his touch.
"We're little kids again," he told her, "We're just playing, running around in a green field. The sun is shining; there's not a cloud in the sky."
She stirred, smiling.
"You have a bright red balloon in your arms. We're running now, and it floats a ways behind you. It's keeping you from catching up with me."
He noticed her brows tense.
"The balloon is part of your thoughts. It's full of everything that's been troubling you today, and it's growing."
He could feel her palm quivering.
"You're holding on to it tightly," he said, "But you don't have to. Open up your hands and just let it go. Let all your troubles float away into the sky just like that balloon."
He felt her hand open, and her body sunk against the pillows. Her eyes remained closed as her breathing slowed to a comforting pace. Her brows fell in relieve, and she remained asleep on her side.
Taichi lifted her arm upwards just enough to allow himself to stand. He gently lowered it back down on the bed, and then bent towards her.
He left a gentle kiss against her earlobe as he whispered to her one last time.
"Good night, Sora."
End Notes:
- This was meant to be written for PrincessJaded's "What a Kiss Means" drabble collection, since she didn't feel comfortable writing a Taichi/Sora pairing. In the end she decided not to use mine and now I'm stuck with it. Woe is me.
- The theme for this was meant to be "a kiss on the earlobe," which meant, "You're my everything."
- This was inspired by my finding out that Tai's dub voice actor, Joshua Seth, performs hypnosis! Who knew?
