Summary: Nobody ever thought that Jude would accept Rogue's request for Lucy's hand. Do you wonder why?

Son

Jude Heartfilia wasn't exactly the nicest person on earth, and everyone knows that. He was cruel and an extremely good business, not to forget that he was a father. His daughter, Lucy Heartfilia reminded him so much of his wife who passed away that he didn't want to see her anymore. This did hurt Lucy very much, the people who worked with them to see how this happened and the daughter's best friend. This was Rogue Cheney, son of Heartfilia's best business partner, the Cheney corporation. You could say that the two fathers were BBP's. This meant that they would go out to eat regularly and go to each other's place. Jude wasn't the nicest, even to them, but he was nicer. And if you can get him so far, you truly are something.

When Lucy and Rogue were both 20 years, Jude had loosened up a bit. He didn't blame Lucy anymore for her mother's death and now loved her for the many things she did like Layla did. Not that anybody besides the Cheneys knew.

Rogue and Lucy both noticed that and decided it was time to act. They were secretly dating because of the fear that their dad's wouldn't accept it. They didn't know that they were planning to have them marry each other. And not that they would ever know.

So on a Sunday evening, Rogue and Lucy came to Jude's office. After knocking and stepping inside, Rogue cleared his throat. Jude acknowledged him as sign that he could speak. "Jude", he began, "I, Rogue Cheney, would like to ask you for your daughter's, Lucy Heartfilia, hand". This wasn't a shock to Jude, though he was surprised with the confidence the young boy had. He knew better than to let him wait long. When he himself was young and he had asked for Layla's hand, her dad had been silent for almost 5 minutes and it had been hell to him. When he had finally answered with a "You may" he had almost jumped in the air from joy. Almost. So after a few seconds he smiled, saying: "You may", exactly like Layla's dad had said to him.

Rogue's reaction was a bit more emotional than his was. With a fast "Thank you" he turned to Lucy to lift her up and swirl her around, ending with a kiss.

It was so nice to be young. That was Jude's last thought before he called his old colleague, now almost his best friend, to share the news; he finally had a son.

Like everyone knew he always had wanted.
