A/N: New drabble based on A King's Ransom, which I got yesterday.

Thanks to bookgirl39, Alix Jade, IJustCantChoose, Koraki, ABetterNinjathanDanCahill, and an anonymous person for reviewing my last story Because of a Teddy Bear. You guys rock!

Ian shook his head in disgust. He was tired from the lack of sleep, monitoring Dan and Amy's travels through Europe, tired of being worried about if Natalie was okay all the time, tired of the stupid fruity drink Americans called tea.

But mostly he was tired of Evan.

Tired that Evan was oh so perfect for Amy.

Tired that he, despite all the money and power in the world, would never be as good as that stupid, nerdy boy, that just so happened go to school with Amy,

In her eyes, Evan was the perfect boyfriend, smart, loyal, even willing to take care of Saladin, and he the pompous brat with only sneering comments, who bullied her at family reunions, who nearly murdered her in Korea. If she wasn't so smart in the cave, she would be dead. And it would be his fault.

In a cruel way, that would be easier. If she was gone, he wouldn't live his life in bitter jealousy, always envying that nerdy, red haired nerd who had stolen Amy's heart. It would end the pain that had been torturing him for so long.

Then again, if she was gone, he would never see her jade green eyes, hear her playful laugh, listen as she rambled on about the latest book she had read.

Without that, he would feel incomplete. It sounded completely stupid, especially for a Lucian and a Kabra at that, but just seeing her so happy made him feel satisfied. When Amy smiled, it felt like every grueling hour of researching, deciphering codes, was all worth it.

In a cliché fairy tale, Evan would be the warrior, and he the wizard. Evan with his charm, would convince Amy come with him, falling in love as they rode away into the sunset.

And Ian? He'd be the wizard, stuck in the dark, cold tower all alone as he tried to figure out the scrambled pieces of life, only to have the warrior come and pretend he had done it all.

No, he thought, I'd be the peasant. At least the wizard has a shot, no matter how small.

I have no shot at all.

Not after the bloody rages of the Clue Hunt, not after my mother became a psychotic, power hungry murderer, not after the deaths, the blood.

The irony of it all, Amy the princess, he the peasant, when just a few years before, it had been the other way around. He basking in power and riches, while she, an orphan girl with her pesky little brother and an au pair.

He overheard Evan talking to Sinead, "I can't wait for Amy to come home! The new Hunger Games movie is coming out – I'll bring her out to see it. We can have popcorn, hot dogs…" he sighed wistfully, "I just really miss her, you know? I hope she's okay, safe from the Vesper, maybe even thinking about me."

"Me too," Ian thought. "Me too."

Reviews would be totally awesome. Thanks guys!
