For a moment, Jamie was confused. Then a single snowflake landed on his nose, and with it came a sudden rush of understanding.

"Jack Frost."

Jack had not expected to hear his name, and thought the boy must be confused.

His mouth fell open with the shock of it. "Did you just say—?"

"Jack Frost."

"You said it again," he murmured in shock. "You said my name!" His voice cracked very slightly on the last word.

The boy turned. Looked at Jack. Right at him. "Jack Frost!" He shouted.

"That's right! But-but that's me! Jack Frost! That's my name! You said my name!"

Tears, real, genuine tears, not frozen-over pretenders, filled Jack's ice-colored eyes.

Jamie gaped.

"Wait, can you hear me?"

Jamie just nodded, mouth still agape.

"Can you— Jack took a deep breath, and said a little prayer. "Can you see me?"

Jamie nodded.

Jack wasn't sure if he himself was about to cry or not. Finally, he squashed the sharpest of his feelings, which was such a great joy it hurt. "He sees me! He sees me!" Jack's voice kept breaking off in joy, half-hopeful, half disbelieving.

Jack jumped in the air, and it began snowing harder.

"You just made it snow!" Jamie exclaimed.

"I know!" Jack said as excited as a little boy.

"In my ROOM!"

"I KNOW!"

Both were shouting, but neither had smiled wider in their entire lives.

"You're real?"

"Yeah!" Jack cried. "Who do you think brings you all the blizzards and the snow days? And you remember when you went flying on that sled the other day?"

"That was you?"

"That was me!"

"Cool!"

"Right?"

"But what about the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy, I mean— Jamie stumbled over his words in his delight.

"Real, real, real! Every one of us is real!" Jack picked up the stuffed bunny from the floor, sat on Jamie's bed, and handed the rabbit to Jamie.

"I knew it!" Jamie clutched the bunny tighter.

"Jamie, who are you talking to?" His mom's voice floated over to him.

"Um…" Jamie hesitated. Jack grinned at him, still trying to quell his delight. "Jack Frost!" How could his mother know it was true?!

"Okay," his mother called back, a hint of condescending laughter in her voice.

If only she knew.
