"I-I love you too."
The words weren't meant to come out like that. Honestly. I had intended for it to be much more romantic, but somehow, in that moment, all of my planning had gone down the drain. I'll admit, I was nervous, especially because I had no clue who might have been listening then, but I still should have been more sincere with my words. Really, I do love Blaine. It just didn't show at that moment.
If he was disappointed after my lackluster admission, Blaine sure didn't display it. I was going to explain myself when we spotted Sam and Mercedes and chatted with them for a while. Mercedes had given me the whole "we're just friends" speech after certain events occurred in New York, but I hadn't believed her then, and definitely not now that I spotted them at the Lima Bean together, no matter what they said about their reasons for being with each other at the coffee shop.
Blaine and I went to my house shortly after the latest New Directions couple left the Lima Bean. We said hello to Dad, who reminded us, "Door stays cracked. No funny business." I rolled my eyes at my father's protectiveness before heading up the stairs to my bedroom. As my dad requested, we left the door cracked and proceeded to sit down on my bed and turn on the television. Blaine switched to America's Next Top Model without being asked, and I thanked him for it. We sat cuddling in silence for a while, not paying much attention to the show until Blaine turned towards me.
"Hey, babe, can I ask you something?" Blaine asked, his brow crinkling adorably but with worry.
"Yes?" I replied. I had a pretty good idea of what he was going to say next, but I kept it to myself.
"Earlier, in the coffee shop...did you mean what you said?" he questioned. "I mean, were you just parroting back my words, or do you really love me?"
"Blaine..." I began, and I could see him tensing up. "I love you more than you could ever imagine. You have made my life so much better, and I wake up every day with a smile on my face, knowing that you are mine alone."
"Then why did you hesitate when I told you that I loved you?" Blaine inquired, confused.
"Because...well, because I was nervous. It was so unexpected, and we were in public. I just didn't want to attract any unwanted attention. And I wanted it to be more romantic. I mean, I was planning it out, and I was hoping for it to be on our date next week, when we went to the beach for a picnic. I just-"
I was interrupted by a passionate kiss on the lips. He turned to fully face me as he deepened the kiss. When we finally pulled away, he looked at me with so much love that I knew my words meant something.
"I love you," I murmured, more confident than the previous time.
"I love you too, Kurt," Blaine whispered back. "You complete me. As the wise Katy Perry once said, 'I've finally found you...'"
"'My missing puzzle piece,'" I finished as I cuddled closer to my perfect boyfriend, and I knew in that moment, Blaine and I would last forever.
