Note: a quick drabble on how Gwen helped Leon escape. Hope u like
A Lady Fair
Gwen worked quickly with the point of her needle glinting in the candlelight as it darted in and out of the soft fabric, drawing the long tail of thread behind it.
She had racked her brains as to how to get Sir Leon out of the dungeon that Morgana had incarcerated him in and this was the best way that she could think of – although there was a good chance that Leon would disagree. With her handiwork done, Gwen progressed with her plan.
The following morning, after feigning her 'trip' and slipping the key to Leon, Gwen made her way down to the dungeons where there were currently two guards posted. With the city in a state of terror under Morgana's rule, the king imprisoned and the prince missing, there was little need to guard against people breaking in or prisoners breaking out.
The guards were pleasantly surprised when Gwen appeared at the top of the stairs, a flirtatious smile on her face and her body positioned in an alluring pose, the tops of her dress slipped subtly but significantly lower off her shoulders to reveal smooth skin and sculpted collarbones. They had no reason to be suspicious – it was not unusual not unheard of for young maidservants of the castle to seek entertainment in the depths of the castle, away from prying eyes.
With the guards thus distracted, it was simple for Leon to slide the copied key into the cell door and ease it open before hiding behind the side wall. When he gave the nod, Gwen looked past the guards down to the cells. She gave her best gasp and clapped a dramatic hand to her mouth.
"Guards, the prisoner has escaped." Gwen pointed down the stairs.
Cursing loudly, the two men raced down to the now empty cell. As they reached the open door, Leon stepped out from his hiding place and snatched away the ring of keys which hung from one the guards' belts. At the same time, he and Gwen shoved the guards into the cell which he had newly vacated before turning the key with a satisfying 'click'.
Gwen thrust a grey bundle at Leon. "Put this on, hurry!"
It was a hooded cloak which the knight threw about his shoulders and pulled over his head. Following Gwen closely, they hurried through the back alleys and streets back to her little cottage where they could take refuge for a few brief moments.
If she'd had time to fully appreciate it, Gwen would have creased up with laughter at the look on Leon's face when he was presented with the lilac dress.
"It's the only way, Leon. Besides, I spent half the night adjusting that frock to fit." She grinned. "There's not too many women anywhere near as tall as you!"
Leon held the gown in front of him, scarcely able to believe what he was about to do.
"Hold still," instructed Gwen as Leon fidgeted uncomfortably with the unfamiliar feeling of the dress as he struggled into it. She'd had to fetch a stool to stand on in order to help him fasten the ties at the back. "There," she said when he was finally attired in the dress.
Leon looked so despondently at her that had the situation not been so serious, she would have giggled at the sight of the tall, proud knight standing in the middle of her cottage wearing a lilac dress.
"Will I pass?" he asked glumly.
"You will do very nicely," she nodded approvingly. "Just make sure to keep your face hidden, though."
Leon took on a faintly hurt expression. "You think I make an ugly woman?"
Gwen suppressed a smile. "No, you're very fetching but you also make a bearded lady."
"Oh," Leon shrugged sheepishly. "I forgot about that."
Gwen hopped off the stool and picked up the bag which she had already packed with a few provisions. "Come, my lady, it's time we were going."
They hurried off and away deep into the woods as Morgause and Morgana watched them go with Gwen leaving a magical trail in her wake.
