In Kit's Head
Disclaimer: Sadly enough, none of these characters are mine. Neither is the book this is strongly based on. Kit's thoughts however, are totally mine! (heehee)
Kit Rodriguez awoke that morning with his stomach churning, today was the day, today he was going to tell Nita his true feelings for her. But how to do that? He sat on his bed for a while mulling it over picking at his old rocket pajamas.
I need to get rid of these things. Kit thought. Then suddenly it came to him! The planetarium! It was having a showing on other galaxies! It was the perfect excuse, now to ask his parents. Suddenly, a catbird appeared at his window and sang what at first appeared to be an extremely random song.
"Kit, you wanna see a disaster? Come over here and watch my parents try to hook up the Apple."
"Well, that worked out well," Kit muttered as he got dressed and started down the stairs. There was no excuse now, he had to do it.
After a short discussion with his parents, he got his money together and walked to Nita's house. When he got there, he paused for a few moments outside the door and knocked. When he looked in and saw her head of gorgeous dark hair, all doubts vanished, he would follow through with it.
After a quick look at Nita's mom and dad attempting to install the computer, they headed outside. When he told Nita his plans and she ran inside to get her money, he walked slowly around the side of the house, pondering how he was going to tell her. Should he come right out and say it in the backyard? Nah, too awkward, he decided, I should probably tell her at the planetarium when there's no chance of being overheard by someone, like Dairine. As he began the transit circle in the backyard, Nita came bounding out. He sneaked a peek up at her smiling face and his stomach automatically performed a double back flip that wouldn't have been out of place at the Olympics. He hoped he could muster up the courage to.. well... he would worry about that later. As he glanced over sideways at her, opening his mouth to say something clever, a shout rang out from the house and Dairine got booted into the backyard.
Well so much for my chance. Kit thought, oh well, maybe she'll leave us alone.
An hour later:
Come on Kit! Kit thought furiously to himself, Just say it! But however harshly he chastised himself, his mouth refused to budge. Nita and Kit were alone in the planet weight room and she was on the Jupiter scale. Suddenly, they weren't alone anymore. Dairine had came up behind Nita and mumbled something. Kit couldn't quite catch what she'd said, but the wild rant of thoughts he heard coming from her gave him the general gist.
"What was that all about?" he asked her as he moved onto the scale next to Nita
"Oh crap," she said scowling, "I'm growing."
"Oh," Kit said in what he hoped was an airy tone of voice, "I hadn't noticed." Actually, he thought to himself, he had. She was getting more beautiful every day. Well, Kit thought, maybe right now isn't the best time.
Twenty minutes later, there was an announcement that the planetarium was about to close. As they went looking for Dairine, Kit stopped and pretended to tie his shoe as Nita wrestled with an extremely stubborn bathroom door. Furiously, he wondered whether he should tell her now before Dairine joined them again, but he heard Nita gasp and looked up.
"Mars! She went to Mars!"
Well, maybe some other time.
A/N: Well, I hope you liked it. Please R&R. No, I probably won't be writing any more stories like this b/c they'd get pretty repetitive and there's no way I'm going through the whole book. Look out for more original stories soon!
