Ever since the final game of basketball, Gabriella and I (including Sharpay, Troy, Chad, and Taylor) have been friends. But there's something that reminds me much about Gabriella. Like another girl I met during summer vacation.
It was about seven years ago, age 11, and the first week of summer. The only week that the Evans family was all together and no job holding them back. So why not celebrate at the beach. It's perfect. Anyway, mom was tanning with Sharpay, dad look at them smiling, and I was going to try surfing. It was my first and only try.
The ocean had many waves, they were so high, it almost reached the pier. Dad always said that I was always up for something big and high. At this rate almost too high but that wasn't going to stop me.
I got on my surfboard and rushed to the waves. As the waves started to go, I was doing it. I was going the fastest. Maybe too fast. The waves started to go higher and I got scared. So scared, I fell off my board. Sharpay and my parents got scared also. Everyone was watching and no one even tried to save me. All except one girl. She rushed into the ocean to save me. As I was about to go to the bottom of the ocean about to drown, she got a hold of me and rushed me to shore.
"Is he breathing?" Sharpay panicked. "He just needs some CPR," the girl answered. Like the usual CPR, she checked my heart, breathed in the water out of my mouth, and spit it out. I started to cough. Everyone was relived that I was alive. I opened my eyes and saw the girl that saved me. Brunette hair, coffee colored skin, and dark brown eyes. It was almost like a Little Mermaid moment except she's not singing.
"What happened," I asked. "You almost drowned," the girl asked. "Aw man, note to self never go surfing ever again." The girl giggled, then she saw a bad scar on my leg. She then used a bandana as a band-aid. "There, now you're better." "What if you want it back?" "Don't worry, you can keep it." She smiled. "What's your name?" I asked. "Gabriella Rivera. I wish I could ask the same question but I gotta go back to Santa Fe. I'm sure we will meet again." Then she went to the car with her mom, her baby sister, and her dad. All I had left of her was the bandana.
This makes me wonder, is the Gabriella I know now the one who saved me from near death experience? This may be the day that I ask that question.
"Gabriella?" I asked. "Hey Ryan. What's up?" she replied with a comfortable smile. I then pulled out a bandana out of my pocket. She then gave a look that she knows what it is. "Before I let you know where I got this, was your last Rivera before your parents divorced?" I asked. "How do you know that?" she replied. I then pulled up the right of my jeans. There it showed a scab. She was shocked. "Oh my god! I didn't know that boy at the beach was you! This is so weird!" "I know, I should have said this on that day." "What?" "Thank you." I then hugged Gabriella. She then hugged right back. "So can I keep the bandana?" "Are you joking, I've been looking for something like this since then! But yes." We both laughed and remembered something we would never forget.
