Well, I saw Troy and… Didn't quite appreciate the ending as much as I should have. So here's my version!
Fallen
The surprise in Achilles' eyes was reflected within Briseis' as he fell to his knees. His heel throbbed with a glorious pain his body had never felt, and he stared down at the wound, at the blood seeping onto the ground, staining the grass. Suddenly, the world around him was ever so bright, ever so beautiful, eternally burned into his mind as he looked around for the last time. An arrow struck him again, and again, and again in his chest and stomach, and without thought or reason he pulled them out as if they were splinters. He looked up, his eyes hardened in grudging respect as he looked at his killer.
Fair of face and so familiar, Achilles pinned him as the brother of brave Hector. Aware of Briseis clinging to him and sobbing, Achilles looked into her eyes, trying to soothe her. He was going to die. The pain from his heel was shooting through his entire body, and he felt nothing. Nothing but a calm that washed over him like warm ocean waves, and for an instant, he smiled. The brother of Hector, Paris, his fading mind quickly told him, walked towards them and gripped Briseis' arm. She struggled against him, but when Achilles spoke, she obeyed haltingly, her eyes on him as Paris dragged her away. He watched her go, watched her be forced to leave, and then his world became blurry.
Achilles allowed his eyelids to drop, letting his world fall into darkness. He let the pain in his body ebb into a soothing lull that caused his body to slump to the ground, taking one last breath before his life left him.
Briseis screamed in the distance as she felt more than saw her lover fall into eternal slumber, and several moments later a cry of pain was heard, followed by a sickening thump.
When they searched the fallen city in the morning, they found Briseis curled up in a fetal position, asleep, her face stained with tears. A priest took her by the hand to allow her to wash her face, and when he asked her if she was all right, she simply smiled.
"Yes, I'm quite fine," she murmured, watching the basin of water turn crimson as she washed her filthy hands.
