Imagine that you lived upside down. Your feet were planted in the sky, among the clouds. Your showers were from rain that fell upwards from the clouds instead of downward. All you ever wanted was to be like the rest of the people, living on Earth. With your feet on the ground. Imagine being all alone, up there.
That was how Naruto felt, everyday. He sat on a swing, all alone, and scowled at his fellow students at the Ninja School. They were all gathered on the opposite side of the yard, greeting their parents and their family.
They called him the 'freak', the 'monster'. But he wasn't the monster. He was just the container, the house for a monster, the Nine-Tailed Fox. He didn't choose this destiny, this burden. It was chosen for him, by someone else. And now he's left all alone, with no family and the curse of having the Nine-Tailed Fox inside of him.
He tried to attract attention by being the 'bad guy'. Always mischievous. Naruto had desecrated the Hokage monument at least twice. He had failed the Ninja School's graduation exam the last two times.
None of that gave him back his family.
Of course, he never knew what having a family felt like. He had always been alone. His goal of becoming the greatest Hokage ever was fueled by their disgust and contempt of him. He was going to show them who was the strongest ninja, and then the village will recognise his strength. That was all he wanted.
Well, that and ramen, of course.
He was going to pass the test this time, goddamnit. He was. This time he will get that damn forehead protector.
If only he could do a Bunshin No Jutsu.
