The serpent
I never thought anyone would try to hurt our Diente and his Naga. I guess that I was wrong. Charis died a week ago. The joined empire my Diente Zane formed with the Avian Tuuli Thea, Danica, was shaky indeed but it seemed like it would work. I for one had faith in Zane even if his people didn't. Danica was a striking woman too. Word is that she has been practicing with our dancers. That is good, I haven't seen any of the royal house, let alone an Avian, so welcomed into the dancer's hall for many years. Perhaps this will stop the plotted assassination attempts on Danica and Zane. The stroll through the market seemed harmless but I knew caution was needed. Another assassination attempt might actually kill someone next time. Strange things have been mentioned to me by Alibhe. He doesn't seem to trust his sister as much. When ever he is around her he grips the hilt of his blade as if he is being threatened. I think he knows what's going on around here, or at least has his suspicions.
Since then I have been promoted into Zane's personal guards. He trusts both me and Alibhe. Fortunately for me and Zane, I don't mind Avians. It is a hard subject to cope with, but finally the war is over, but everyone seems to hate the other even more so. Not too long before Charis died, Zane was attacked and the would-be assassin turned on Danica when she tried to stop the fight. The assassin was reportedly caught by Adelina and executed before anyone else could interrogate her. Zane was becoming continuously frustrated as the days wear on. Danica doesn't seem to completely trust Zane, but the looks that Zane gives her would make any Serpiente woman jealous. And any Avian would consider it a scandal the way he kisses her sometimes. I don't know whether Danica likes this marriage any more than Zane does, but she still needed to go along with it, for everyone's sake.
