Dangers in the Night

"Bella! Bella!" A hand roughly shook her shoulder to rouse her from sleep. "Bella! You need to wake up this instant!"

As the voice swept the fog from her mind recollection came. She was home. Edward was safe. Alice was in her room - cracking her eyes she confirmed - in the dead of night. Sensing beside her she found herself the only occupant in her twin bed. Where was Edward? Where could he be?!

And why did Alice seem so frantic?

The vision of crimson eyes loomed in her subconscious and she fully woke with a gasp. "Alice?! What's wrong?"

Looking frantically for her love Bella found herself and Alice the room's only occupants. The petite vampire's words drew the mortal brunette's gaze "There's no time Bella! Quick get dressed! We have to go NOW."

Stumbling out of bed and to her dresser she quickly got dressed as Alice turned to check for what she assumed was danger out the window while tuning into her talent to see the future.

Knowing her friend's clairvoyance Bella hoped to get a better grasp on the situation. "Where's Edward? What did you see Alice?"

Pirouetting around the small young woman took in her appearance in dismay to Bella's chagrin. "Alice, are you going to criticize my wardrobe at a time like this?!"

Huffing quickly her friend finally threw her a bone "Edward will meet us there. Right now we have to leave, it's for the best Bella."

"But Charlie- I need to at least leave him a note. He'd never forgive me." She could remember the fear and shock she put her father through since she came to Forks.

"I already covered for you before remember? He'll just think you left early for our girl's outing. You can call him on the road if need be, Charlie'll understand."

Of course. Grabbing her keys and phone she realized she didn't even have a jacket; hers was downstairs on the hook right next to the door. But Alice had already gone to the window and with a graceful hop jumped over the sill and down. With one last look at her room, realizing that the danger of staying outweighed her selfish need to see her father one last time, she followed.

In the car and out of Forks Bella felt it might not be premature to breath a sigh of relief. "Ok Alice. You need to tell me what's going on. Where are we headed anyway?"

"Portland Bella, it's the closest option so far." Alice's eyes never diverted from the road: surly a bad sign.

"Why are we going to Portland? If we are in danger won't whomever is chasing us find it easy to follow us that far?" The cobwebs of sleep had been firmly brushed aside along with her initial adrenaline leaving Bella rather cross.

"I suppose I exaggerated a bit, it's more of a crisis than danger." Glancing at her passenger Alice felt it safe to tell Bella the truth. "It just so happens that there is an H&M opening today in Portland."

She could feel her temper trying to get the best of her. "Do not tell me that the crisis is my fashion sense."

"Honestly Bella, if you are going to wear flannel and thermals all the time the least you can do is make sure they are European! Plus their opening deals will be once in a life time!"

"Does Edward know that you're doing this?" She couldn't image that he did. Looking off in the distance she fell silent for a moment. Turning to her hostage Alice gave her a dazzling smile. "Now he does!"

Just then Bella felt her pocket vibrate with her phone receiving a call. She wasn't entirely sure she should answer it.

AN: I'm not a Twihard but I wrote this about two years ago to commemorate H&M (or Ho-Mm as they say in Sweden) opening in my town and I've been trying to post my old fanfics so someone else can enjoy them. I hope you got a laugh. :)
