Another quick one shot/drabble of Dean and Sam's relationship! I really like this one =] Feedback is always appreciated!

Dean grew up a lot quicker than most kids. That was a fact set in stone. After all none of the other kids in Dean's kindergarten class were trusted staying home alone with their two year old brother. By the time Dean was ten he was often left home alone watching after his brother for a week. So long story short he was mature for his age. Dean was not school smart but he was street smart. He knew exactly what to do to protect Sam from almost everything. Dean grew up quick, but that didn't mean Sam had to too. Dean did everything in his rather limited power to make sure Sam didn't grow up faster than absolutely necessary. By doing this he ultimately made himself grow up faster. But it was worth it. In a way it was a sort of trade, Dean's childhood for Sam's. It was not as drastic as when he traded his soul for Sam's life but it was basically the same idea. He gave up something he wouldn't be able to get back for Sam. No matter what Dean would trade anything to protect Sam. And he would never regret it, come hell or high water. If it helped Sam it ultimately helped Dean, even if it cost him in the long or short run.
