Set after Route 66, not much about spoilers. This all about how JJ feels after telling the unsub about her sister. This is mostly JJ and Sandy although Will is in it.
She had finally made it home after going back to the office then checking on Hotch. As she walked into their house, she sat her bag down in the living room before walking into the living room to sit on the couch. Tonight, she didn't go up the stairs to kiss her sleeping little boy or go climb in bed with her husband instead she sat on the couch thinking about Joyce. It had been over twenty years, since her death but right now she felt like it was yesterday. She picked up her phone hitting the speed dial button for the one person she knew would help her feel better.
Will had been waiting up for her, he knew something was off when she called him. He heard the car pull up, then the alarm being set. He waited sitting on the bed for her to go to Henry's room before coming into their room but ten minutes later when that didn't happen, he decided to go check on her. He slowly made his way down the hall, going down the stairs, he seen her sitting on the couch with her phone in her hand, he waited a couple of minutes before letting her know that he was there.

JJ almost hung up after the forth ring, she knew it was late and her mom was probably sleeping.
"Jen?" Sandy Jareau as she answered the phone.
"Sorry to call so late." JJ whispered.
"Jen is everything okay?"
"Yes." was all she could get out before she started crying.
"Jennifer, are you, Henry, and Will okay? Was someone hurt?" Sandy starting to panic.
"Will and Henry are fine, no one was hurt." She tried to explain.
Will watched his wife closely, when she started crying he walked over to her, he sat on the couch wrapping her in his arms.
"Jen, talk to me." Sandy told her.
"It was a bad case and it made me think of her. I just need to call you." As she leaned into Will more.
Sandy finally understood, JJ had only called her after cases a few times and it usually when they reminded her of Joyce. She thought it was because JJ needed to know that her mom was still there.
"Do you want to tell me about it?"
"This guy was trying to do suicide by cop with his daughter there. I decided to try to talk him out of it, so I told him about Joyce and finding her. That it would change the daughter forever."
"Did it work?"
"Yes, but now all I can think about is her and if I could have done something."
"Jennifer, you were a little girl there was nothing that you could have done. Joyce was sick we both know that now and I wish every day that I would have seen the signs but I didn't. I can tell you one thing that I know for sure."
"What?"
"She loved you and she would be so proud of the women that you have become." Sandy told her.
"Do you really think so?"
"I know she would, you save people every day and have a family that you love and they love you. Jen, you are amazing and I am proud of you."
"I'm sorry that I woke you up." JJ feeling a little better.
"Never apologize for calling me. Now let Will take care of you because I know he is there with you."
"He is right here. I love you."
"I love you too. Call me in the morning."
JJ hung up with Sandy, she sighed stilling feeling the pain, and she started crying again.

Will sat there holding her, he knew she needed to get all the tears out. He also knew that this didn't happen often but every once in a while Jennifer Jareau LaMontagne needed to be vulnerable. Tonight was one of those nights. When she fell asleep he would carry her to bed.
Please tell me what you thinkā¦
