Chapter 1

Intro/prologue

I slowly open my eyes to a welcoming blurriness. I felt the cold sensation of blood flowing down my head. I felt numbness all over my body. My right hand was tattered with scratches and my left arm was missing completely. Maybe due to the shock of the missing limb or the slow embrace of death, I felt no pain just emptiness. As I lay on my back, my eyes slowly adjusted to the unwelcoming sight of the black dragon, Acnologia.

Acnologia was flying, admiring the destruction he caused. He was satisfied. He was happy. And he flew off.

But why? I'm still alive. No our guild is alright! Isn't it?

I couldn't think straight. The numbness dulled all my senses. It took all my effort to flip from my back to my chest. I was breathing erratically. I closed my eyes to focus on my breathing. Blurriness didn't impair me this time but I wish it did. I opened my eyes to pools of blood from bodies laid across the floor. This can't be real. This can't be real. This can't be real! It has to be a lie. It has to be a lie!

I wanted to scream but I couldn't. My guild mates were dead.

Ignoring my body's refusal with will power, I slowly crawl close to my comrades. "Everyone…"

"Somebody, anybody…Please…Get up…" I gritted my teeth in frustration and sadness. Each word was load as a whisper.

I knew I didn't have much longer, I knew the numbness was going to take over my consciousness again.

"DAMN IT!"

Tears of frustration escaped my eyes as I looked at my fallen comrades. My eyes began to blur once again but this time a cold sensation accompanied and wrapped my body. The depth and luster of my eyes were fading into jet black. My eyes felt heavy as the slowly dropped to close.

I was still burning with the desire to fight; I need to pay the dragon back for what he did to the guild, to my family.

Then my eyes shut completely and my mind went completely blank. In it's place a warm sensation engulfed my being.

Then, I slept.
