Royai 100 - Theme 17:
To
take this hand ...
... will mean everything

From the Royai 100 themes. Sorry if it's already been done. During this drabble, I should have been working on my other Royai fic. XD But when I saw the theme, I felt compelled to write for some reason...
Roy Mustang looked down at the hand whose knuckles were red from winter that lay next to his on the oak planks of the park bench.
He generally made it a point to never hold the hand of any of his "dates". It tended to underscore just how frivolous his one-night relationships with them were and at the same time ironically made him squirm under the idea of a long term relationship with them. When he felt the slightest brush of their long, perfectly manicured finger nails trying to thread their way between his, he would move quickly to run a hand through his cold black hair.
But this hand was different. Its nails weren't colored and were neatly trimmed short (unlike his, these nails had never been compulsively bitten). Her hands were calloused on the palms and slightly cracked on the knuckles, veins visibly forming an intricate network to supply the blood needed for her strong arms. They weren't delicate or particularly feminine; her hands were maintained for practical uses. Like pulling a trigger.
Which is why he didn't hesitate to reach for her hand. To willingly do so, in his book, was an act of dedication and commitment to her, to them. He didn't want to be lonely with nameless women anymore. Roy wanted to be with the one and only First Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye, who was blond, strong, determined, different, and the only woman who would ever stay with him years past the first night. He wanted to go to bed with her every night and stay with her late into the next evening, instead of making it a point to leave before she awoke.
And now that Roy thought about it, he wasn't scared about spending the rest of his life with someone. Just as long as that someone was Riza Hawkeye. She was the only women he admired and depended on. Hell, she was the only woman he could stand for more than one night. He smiled and removed his gloves.
When he grasped Riza's hand in his, he grasped with both hands.
Hope it was relaxing and enjoyable to read. :-) It was just the idea of Roy making a commitment to Riza. Tell me what you think...
