AN: This will be a series of short stories about touching(heart breaking) moments from the strawhat pirates childhood. No, I didn't get inspiration for the title from X-MEN origins Wolverine. What makes you think that?
DISCLAIMER: I'll do this once because I'm lazy. I do not own One Piece or anything else that refers to something that someone else owns, all I own is my own edition of the merchandise and anything you don't recognize as cannon in the plot.
Today the outside world was found ablaze in heat. The hot summer reaching it's peak and the small towns' citizens where blessing every gust of wind that came by their village. Shutters and windows wide open didn't particularly provide any comfort for the houses' poor inhabitants, the wind was almost nonexistent and all it really served was too drag in the dust of the streets, but having been closed in for days, in a vain attempt of avoiding the heat, the villagers had all decided that shouting across the houses was a fair attempt at socializing and it did dull some of boredom for them. There where only one house that didn't participate in this "socializing" and it was a small one at that. the house belonged to a woman and her young son.
The air rippled in heat outside and the shadow indoors didn't carry much relief for the sick woman. Sweat bedding on her forehead, dark hair on the pillow glossy with sweat, grease and the water from the wet rag that her son used to wipe her forehead with. Her shallow breaths hardly moved her chest but she had a small smile on her lips. Listening to the grand stories of her husband's adventures her son was telling her, she let her sons voice steer the direction of her dreams once more. It had been like this for awhile now, the sickness had been with her for a long time but up till two years ago it hadn't affected her that much. Now she was too weak to leave the bed, much less the house. She looked tiredly at her young son, so young he was. So brave.
- Usopp, she said. Her son fell silent and looked attentively at her. Until he twitched and realized that her forehead was beady with sweat once more. He hurriedly bent down for the rag but she interrupted him. Taking a steady hold on his wrist. That isn't necessary any longer, Usopp, she continued. She looked him in the eyes, she could see the worry there. I'm glad Yasopp went to the sea too follow his dreams Usopp. I'm happy that you're so brave. I love you, my son, she said. Voice steady and hardly tired at all. The small boy smiled at her.
- We will manage, just you wait and see mom! Tomorrow there will be a new day for us and he will come. Tomorrow the pirates will surely come! Usopp said, excitement clear in his eyes. Almost convincing her. He was so sure of himself, her little boy. It had helped to hold on for an entire year. But her time was up now. There was nothing more left in her.
- Go for the doctor Usopp, but tell him he need not hurry. She smiled when he went out the door. Sayonara, Usopp-kun.
AN: Next up is most likely Zoro and his will be split up into several parts I'm afraid. No this is not a sign of who my favorite strawhat is. Not at all.
