ZERO NO TSUKAIMA: Collision of the Worlds

Chapter 1: Dimensional Fault

April 7th, 1945, everyone aboard the ship thought about their friends and families left behind in the home islands. They have been tasked to do an impossible mission, but with the Americans at their doorstep they have no other choice but to fight a futile battle. However, a new destiny awaits in a new world.

"Hey…Daichi aren't you afraid of dying here?" Saigo asked.

"Well, I am but it's our duty to defend the home islands. The Americans have already invaded Okinawa and soon they will come for the mainland."

"True, but to die so soon… is quite unfulfilling, we're just 17 years old you know." Saigo chuckled.

"Nah, you're just a horny dog that's why you don't want to die. I bet you haven't done in Masako yet." Daichi jokingly retorted.

"No! You idiot I'd never do that to her!" Saigo frantically denied trying to contain his blushing face.

"Meh." Daichi teasingly smirked.

The two continued to talk about funny things for an hour to ease their anxiety for the upcoming battle, but soon their laughter was interrupted.

"All hands to battle stations! Prepare for anti-aircraft action! I repeat all hands to battle stations!" The voiced echoed over the ship's PA system.

"Let's go Daichi! time for some action! Let's go kick some American Ass!"

"Same as always eh, you're quite a happy go lucky guy even in battle." Daichi murmured.

"HEY! YOU TWO GET TO YOUR DAMN POSTS ALREADY!" A passing officer yelled.

"Hai!" the two replied in unison.

The two hurried off to the battle bridge located atop of the ship's ten storey command tower. After a winding climb they arrived and took their respective positions.

Within five minutes the entire ship was battle ready, the look outs on the battle bridge meticulously scour the skies for visual contact as the air search radar have already confirmed the presence of incoming enemy squadrons, as Daichi turns his binoculars at about 45 degrees he spots something behind the clouds.

"Bearing 10 O'clock, altitude 20,000 feet! Enemy fighters and dive-bombers!" Daichi quickly reported as he saw droves of descending enemy aircraft.

"Main Gun Batteries commence firing! Use San-Shikidan shells!" Captain Aruga fiercely commanded.

The nine 46cm guns roared and spewed bursting flames as each barrel flung 2,998lbs of steel. The Type 3 incendiary shells exploded at the target altitude hitting two SB2C dive bombers.

"Two enemy dive-bombers has been hit sir!" Daichi enthusiastically reported.

"Commence close anti-aircraft engagement all anti-aircraft guns scramble! hold a barrage!" The Captain ordered.

"Incoming enemy fighters! they're strafing us!" Daichi frantically reported as he ducked to avoid ricocheting bullets from the strafing fighters' machine guns. Several look outs were wounded from the strafing.

"We've got many wounded here at the battle bridge! Send medics immediately!" he hurriedly shouted down at the voice pipe near him.

45 minutes later into the battle…..

"Two bomb hits near the stern, and four torpedo hits amidships! We're taking tons of water from port side sir!" A panicked voice reported in the voice tube from decks below.

"Counter it! counter flood starboard compartments 10-14!" An officer relayed to the damage control team.

Saigo watched as several SB2C Hell divers deliver its payload to the ship.

Eeeeeeennnnnnnng BOOOM! the bombs explode as they hit the decks creating an instant inferno, then a chain of powerful explosions ensue, ripping some case mates and several twenty-five millimeter AA machine guns. The scene was a complete carnage, shrapnel buffets the men down on the deck and the rescue teams are having a hard time as the situation was so chaotic and the decks are slippery with blood.

"This is hell…." Saigo thought as he watched several gunners on the deck get blown away from their positions.

"AA-positions 45, 35, 50, 51, and 60 has been hit they're disabled sir!" A damage control crewman reported.

One hour and a half later…

"Captain! All trim control lost! We're listing 20 degrees to port!" The Navigation Officer distressingly informed Captain Aruga.

"A-all right… give orde-r-s to abandon sh-hip…do it in an orderly manner…" The heavily wounded Captain replied.

The Bridge was in ahuge mess, Daichi was one of the lucky men not hit by strafing fighters.

After hearing this Daichi quickly went to Saigo's post, he was relieved to see his best friend alive and well.

"Orders have been given to abandon ship let's get the hell out of here!" Daichi urgently told Saigo.

Before they could reach the ladder, the ship started to roll and the two were forced to jump off from the tower bridge.

"Waahhhhhhhhhh!" Both shouted as they fell on to their supposed deaths.

Suddenly strange light appeared and engulfed them…

"WWai-Wait.. What the h-!"

Meanwhile….in Halkegania...

Queen Henrietta of Tristain is holding a party aboard the Ostland in celebration of Tabitha's successful rescue.

Saito is alone in one of Ostland's forward upper observation deck. He was so engrossed with his thoughts that he didn't notice Siesta approaching to remind him of the party.

"Saito-san aren't you going to the main deck? the party is starting" Siesta asked.

"You can go ahead I'll be there in a moment" Saito smiled.

"Saito-san you seem to be in a very deep thought recently. Are you still thinking of returning to your world?"

"Well yes, but a part of me wants to stay another wants to return…quite strange isn't it?"

Saito relentlessly stared at calm sea and the starry night sky thinking of ways to return home; seeing his loneliness Siesta comforted him.

"S-Siesta" Saito blushed as she hugged him

"It's okay Saito-san it's the least I can do"

"T-Thanks…"

The mood between them was getting good when...

BAGH! The door suddenly opened.

"So there you are YOU PERVERTED DOG!" Louise yelled.

"N-No calm down this a misunderstanding!" Saito explained nervously.

"EXPLOSION!" Louise casted her usual spell.

BOOOOOOOOOM!

"They're at it again…." Professor Colbert remarked with a smile.

"Certainly, he he it's nice to be young huh?" Principal Osmond chuckled.

"Principal Osmond about- " Colbert was interrupted when a strange light appeared before the Ostland.

"What's that emerging? a ship?" As he points to the object coming out of the strange light.

"I've never seen a ship like that!" Osmond replied with astonishment.

Everyone on the Ostland flinched in awe as a mysterious vessel came out from the strange light.

"Look at those... are those cannons? It's different from any Halkeganian ships I've seen, its hull and structures are entirely made of steel! It's size is dwarfing the Ostland!" Professor Colbert stared with amazement.

"C-could it be another relic from Saito's world?" Queen Henrietta gasped.

On the upper deck.

"It can't be!" Saito muttered in disbelief.

"What is it Saito?" Siesta asked.

"That crest on the ship's bow it's the symbol of my country's Imperial Family!"

"What?" Louise said in a surprised voice.

As the mysterious vessel closed in, Saito recognized it's unmistakably sailing silhouette, the Imperial Navy ensign that flies on its mast, and its towering superstructure."

"That ship is a warship from my world, the largest and most heavily armed in my world's history, but it was supposedly sunk 60 years ago before I was even born. What in the world is that ship doing here?"

Even for Saito who is not an academic kid recognized the mysterious ship, anyone from Japan knows more or less about it and the bloody history of the Empire that sunk with it.

"Battleship Ya-…!?" Saito muttered with great shock and admiration.

The Rising Sun had set but it will rise on a new world.
