Hey, everybody! I know it's been a while, but it's official. We've moved into our new house, and I wanted to celebrate by giving ya'll something new to chew on. So enjoy, and please remember to review!
Disclaimer: Not mine!
A special thanks go out to Bammi1. I've been rereading one of my favorites of hers, The Way It Was, and it inspired this little oneshot. So thanks, Bammi! This one's for you.
CICICICICICICICICICICICICI
Lewis was excited as he walked into the hospital and headed for the maternity ward. He had gotten the call an hour ago, and ever since then, he hadn't even been able to stand still for a second.
His pace quickened when he heard the sound of a baby crying, and finally he reached his intended target.
Along the wall, there was a long mirror, and he pushed his glasses further up on his nose as he got closer. Without thinking about it, he rubbed his hands against his pants and swiped a hand through his messy hair.
There were numerous little isolettes, some pink and some blue, and he had to smile. Even though he didn't have any of his own, he loved children, and he knew he would love this one.
"She's over there," a proud voice said, and without turning around, Lewis knew his best friend was standing behind him.
"How is she?"
"She's absolutely perfect," Bobby beamed, directing Lewis to a pink isolette in the center. "Seven pounds and six ounces."
"Have you and Detective Alex picked out a name yet?" He knew that they had known they were expecting a girl, but they hadn't been able to decide on a name.
Bobby nodded with all the excitement of a new father. "Her name is Isabella Frances Goren." He couldn't even begin to explain how thrilled he was that Alex wanted to allow him to name their child after his late mother.
"For your mom?" Lewis turned and looked at him. "You really do have a very special lady, Bobby." He hugged his lifelong friend.
Bobby enthusiastically returned the hug. "I know I do, Lewis. I'll never know what I did to deserve her."
Lewis finally pulled away, then turned to look at Bobby's new baby girl again. "Very lucky," he commented, pressing his hand against the glass.
The bigger man rested his forehead against the glass. He was more than content to stand there and watch his little miracle stretch and wiggle in her little isolette. Every time he looked at her, his breath was stolen all over again.
Lewis turned his head and grinned at Bobby, and the two childhood friends spoke silently with their expressive eyes.
A collective chattering broke their silent conversation, and Bobby groaned softly. "They're here..."
Lewis grinned at him. "Her family?"
"They decided to all come at once," Bobby concluded, seeing the group head down the hall.
Lewis reached out and patted his arm. "Good luck, Bobby," he said, and the bigger man grinned at him before walking away.
As Bobby went to deal with his in-laws, Lewis returned his attention to little Isabella. "You are one lucky little girl, Izzy," he murmured, tapping the glass.
And for a moment, he could have sworn she smiled at him.
The End!
A/N: Well, I hope everyone enjoyed that little fluffy bite. It took all of five minutes to write, and I know it was short, but I'm polishing the next chapter of Family Ties. So be on the lookout for that, and please review! Thanks for reading!
