Clinging to the Past
Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto.
Maybe the reason she couldn't keep her hair grown out was because she needed time to stand still. Even if it kept going, some part of her had to stay the same. For her past. For the people she lost.
For Naruto.
For Sasuke.
For everything she'd gone through.
She couldn't manage to keep her pink locks long, she'd tried growing them back out. Once.
After they'd left.
Needless to say she'd gotten rid of them soon after she'd so painstakingly grown them back out.
What she needed most was to remember the last few weeks before Sasuke left, those weeks had changed her and her short hair honored them. Honored him.
Because without him, she would still be that weak little girl with the long pink hair and that silly little crush on the amazing Sasuke Uchiha.
The girl who had potential that would remain untapped.
Without Sasuke, she would still be nothing. So she kept her hair short for her former love, for her sanity, and most of all, to honor the past. Her past. Their past.
.
Maybe the reason she still clung to Sasuke Uchiha was because she needed something to stay constant in a world that was forever changing. Sakura had always hated change, more often than not, change led to goodbyes, not hellos.
So she clung desperately to Sasuke, he wasn't here-not physically at least-and when she thought of him, she still thought of the young boy who had been on her team, who had bickered with Naruto, called her annoying and had led their silly missions to find what was behind Kakashi's mask despite his busy training schedule, one that involved nothing but his determination for revenge on his brother.
When she thought of him, she still felt like that naïve girl who, although weak with the feeling that she didn't belong or wasn't loved in her rag-tag team of misfits, she didn't have to delve into politics, hold the lives of others in her hands every day, she didn't have to be that girl who sometimes took people's lives away-a girl who had death on her hands.
She loved her life, but sometimes she yearned for simpler times.
And her love for Sasuke proved that she was in love with the idea of him, what he represented, her past and the innocence she once had.
