On the screen, the Patriots scored again and Jo, right in front of the TV, just about screamed with rage. "Come on! This is bullshit! This is - "

On the table, her phone lit up with a new text message. Jo glared at it. Didn't even check what it was because she knew, dammit, she knew.

"Shut up, Dean!"

"Baby, maybe we should change the channel," Jess suggested from the couch. Her long, long legs bent, toes in the air as she brushed new nail polish on like it was art. (Which it kind of was when Jess did it.)

"What?" It took Jo real effort to peel her eyes off the game and look at Jess, ready to argue -

But then a roar went up from the crowd and Jo immediately turned her attention back, sparing Jess millisecond glances every now and then. "Why d'you say that?"

"Maybe because this game has aged you like ten years in the past ten seconds?"

"No," Jo said distantly. The ball was up in the air, everyone was piling up to get it, come on, come on, don't fuck it up. "No no no, I'm… having fun."

Jess snorted.

Okay, they got it. Good boys. Jo unclenched her hands and checked on Jess, who seemed to sense Jo's attention and looked up from her toenails to give Jo a wholly unconvinced look. Her glossy pink smile softened the blow. "No, really, this is important, I've gotta see this," Jo explained.

"If you say so," Jess said. She flexed her finished toes to admire them in the light, and reached to the table to snag Jo's forgotten beer. Jo's "Hey!" got a wink back as Jess took a single, short sip and put it down again, like a good girlfriend. "How much longer is this on for?"

"Five minutes, that's all, and then you can have your Netflix fix," Jo promised. She scooped her beer up and began nursing it. She might've gone to lie down with Jess on the couch, squeezing between those long legs and laying her head on Jess's chest, breathing in the smell of Jess's soap and Jess's hair, if it weren't for the fact that she'd probably mess up Jess's still-wet nail polish.

Jess favored her with a dazzling smile. "That's my girl."
