Just a small drabble produced by sudden inspiration.
Nothing special, just Dean dying for the last time, and Cas holding on. Based loosely on the song Home by Daughtry.
I looked down at his green eyes, watching him blink quickly, fighting the urge to close them. Because he knew as well as I did, that when does eyes shut, they won't reopen again. I tightened my grip on him, praying that it would be enough to keep him here and not leave.
"Cas," Dean rasped, his eyes focusing momentarily on me. His eyes conveyed exactly what I didn't want to face. He was ready to let go. Too bad I wasn't.
"Come on, Dean" I urged quietly, desperately. "Fight for me. Fight for Sam, for Bobby."
He gave a weak smile. "Sammy, he's better off without me. He can quit huntin', and Bobby can forget 'bout me. Normal lives, they can have 'em." He started mumbling incoherent words, and his face was stark white. My lips trembled, and I felt small tears prick the corners of my eyes.
"Dean, please, don't give up. Don't leave me, don't leave the world," I pleaded, saying almost anything to get him to fight.
He closed his eyes, and for one panic stricken moment, I thought he was gone. I screamed his name over and over, until he opened his glorious jade eyes, but not for long.
"Cas, believe me, as much as I wish it wasn't, it's time. It's time for me to go home," He whispered, a ghost of a smile on his face. "Time to be with mom."
I felt my heart break, and I let out a watery grin. "As soon as you get there, I'll be right there beside you."
"I'm counting on it," He whispered, shooting me a smile. He closed his eyes, and I felt his chest still, and his heartbeat stop.
I laid his lifeless body down, going to find Sam and Bobby to inform them, and then I would be gone as well. There was no reason to be on Earth anymore, not when my reason for existence just left.
"See you soon, Dean."
Just a small story to get my feet wet in the Supernatural fandom!
