A/N: This was a random story that popped into my head. I hope you all enjoy it. I own none of the characters mentioned.
Merry Christmas to you all
"What do you mean you don't like Christmas?"
Incredulous cinnamon eyes stared up at her companion. This just had to be a mistake. She must have heard wrong or her ears were broken. It wasn't until he raised a silver brow in her direction that her heart plummeted.
Sesshomaru didn't like Christmas.
Now, to a normal human being, this new revelation would be taken with consideration and maybe some respect. However, Kagome never considered herself a normal human being. With a shocked gasp, she stood up and pointed a gloved finger at him.
"How can you not like Christmas? It's like…the best time of the year!" she exclaimed, eyes sparkling with emotion. "It's the only time of the year where the snow floats down and blankets the world in a serene calmness."
He guffawed. "It also is the only time of year that blizzards occur and trap unsuspecting people inside their homes with no electricity or heat"
Glaring into cool amber eyes, she continued. "It's the only time of year that people get together to celebrate life and togetherness with wonderful trimmings to share."
"This also increases the girth sizes of many of those people who overindulge in these particular trimmings."
Sighing heavily, she rolled her eyes skyward. "Sesshomaru, families get together and celebrate each other by bestowing gifts to one another, whether it is an actual present or the present of their company. Not to mention all of the yuletide traditions." She sighed as her eyes glimmered in happiness, wrapped up in the warm feelings she was experiencing of Christmas' past.
He looked up at her from his place on the bench and snorted. "Kagome, I hate being with my family as do many people, because they feel forced to be with their family at Christmas." A frown began to form on her face at his words. He let her ponder her thoughts for a few moments before continuing. "Christmas traditions are vapid, and many people go broke trying to buy gifts."
"Well fine," she said as she wrinkled her nose at him, "be a sour puss about my favorite holiday. See if I care when you're a grumpy old man secretly begging for affection and attention."
She stomped away from him, muttering incoherent words under her breath. Really, the audacity of that man for trying to ruin her favorite time of the year. The nerve! She continued down the snowy path until a solid wall blocked her way. Cinnamon eyes clashed against amused golden ones. He chuckled, but made no move to increase the space between them. Their breath formed small white puffs in the chilly winter air. Sesshomaru looked up and began to laugh outright.
Wait…laughing…Sesshomaru?
Kagome glanced up at the direction he was looking and blanched. A seemingly innocent plant hung just above their heads, ruby red berries glittering in the glow of the dim streetlights. However, that plant was not innocent, but seemed to be mocking Kagome. Her gaze dropped to the ground as a blush stole over her cheeks. Of course Sesshomaru was laughing at her, since she was the only one in the park with him. And her silly ideals about this season. She had developed feelings for the man and now this stupid plant that some person of fate decided to place here probably just ruined all she had built up with him. That and her slight emphasis on the yuletide traditions. Well, at least she would have their friendship…
"Kagome, look at me."
Startled, her eyes flew back up to his. He was smiling. Like, honest to goodness, eyes crinkling in amusement, dimple in his left cheek prominently showing, smiling. She blinked at him, realizing that for some reason, the space between them had grown even smaller.
Her last coherent thought as his lips descended on hers was that maybe he was beginning to like the Christmas season.
