"The herbaceous plant derives its common names from the unique flower it bears, which resembles a brightly colored bird in flight."
Sometimes Akito did the most irrational things. On days when he could, he danced in the rain, and ended up coughing horribly, Kureno rushing out of the house to catch him, and bring him inside. Akito insisted on doing these things, and no one was sure why. But, they let him do it because he was God and he was going to die. So, why not let him get something out of what little time he had left?
A few of Akito's other antics included stealing Kureno's computer when the former rooster wasn't using it, having an odd taste for horror movies that he forced Kureno to watch with him, on very rare occasions (generally about once a year) managing to barely pull himself into the lower branches of a tree in the garden, and lastly, being a closet Mogeta lover.
However, one day Kureno came to find Akito doing a most strange thing. Akito was sitting in the garden, a bag of soil, a small shovel, watering can, and a pack of seeds surrounding him. When Kureno got closer he noticed that Akito's hands were caked with dirt.
"Akito-san?" Kureno began cautiously. "What are you doing?"
"I'm planting things to make them grow and give them life," was the only reply that Kureno got. Kureno glanced down at the packet of seeds and read 'Bird of Paradise' written across the top in green lettering. Kureno began to wonder why Akito had chosen this type of flower in particular. However, Kureno decided to play dumb.
"What are you planting?"
"Birds of Paradise. They're bright and colorful. These are red orange," Akito motioned to the little mounds of dirt that now dotted the ground, signifying the buried seeds beginning to germinate. "If I live long enough to see them flower, I'll have something nice to look at."
"Of course you're going to live long enough to see them," Kureno said, crouching down by Akito and staring at the mounds, almost believing that something would sprout then and there.
"I chose them because they reminded me of you."
Kureno froze. He glanced over at Akito. The sickly boy gave a small cough and stared thoughtfully at the mounds, imagining what would become of the red orange beauties. Maybe these wouldn't leave him, this time. It was only rational that flowers could not walk away.
