VENGEANCE
On the day of the Pope's funeral, Ascanio Sforza is seen concealing himself as a commoner and hiding out at a brothel in Rome. He pays a merchant for his silence and moments later the merchant is killed by Micheletto, still nursing a wounded arm. As he returns to his bedchamber, Cesare awaits him, and after berating him for his betrayal, strangles him, then runs him through. Micheletto joins Cesare and they leave for Della Rovere's hideout only to find him gone and the corpses of Cardinal Sforza's family burned alive. Cesare returns to the Vatican as the election ensues and encourages Pedro to trust in Cardinal Todeschini, who still supports the conquest of Naples. Realizing there are slim chances that newly appointed Cardinal Borgia will receive the required amount of votes, Cesare makes a deal with Todeschini to have Pedro named as Vice Chancellor. Lucrezia remains in a coma and is looked after by Leonardo Da Vinci and Alfonso D'Este. Alfonso is cleverly led to believe that she is ill with fever. While Todeschini pushes Cesare to take control of Naples for the Borgia family to own rites to the Italian states, Pedro Borgia begins to doubt him and instead tries to push Cesare in the opposite direction. Cesare vehemently argues with him and threatens that if he is not loyal to the family, he too is expendable. After a small scuffle, Micheletto fears his arm wound will prevent him from protecting the family, so Cesare sends him to oversee the treasury. He asks him whether to trust his cousin or Todeschini, but Micheletto sees an end in either path. Meanwhile, Cordoba presses on Cesare that now is the time for their forces to combine and lay siege on Naples. Cesare visits Lucrezia, and speaks to her while she sleeps, saying a prayer to God for her safety and happiness, despite the sin and suffering he's brought upon the family. He then joins Cordoba to march on Naples. With Cesare gone, Todeschini betrays his pact to appoint Cardinal Borgia as Vice Chancellor, and names Della Rovere instead. Together they stage a midnight assassination of Cardinal Borgia. Meanwhile, upon arrival in Naples, Cesare is surrounded by Cordoba's troops only to arrest him and exile him to Spain as a prisoner.
