Something cute to hold you over 'till I post on my other stories. :-)

Captain James T. Kirk tore through the officers' mess to jump in front of the replicator. "Chocolates," he gasped.

"Yes, Captain," replied the smooth voice of the computer, and a neat plate of chocolates slid out of the slot in the wall.

"Jim, what are you doing?" Dr. McCoy approached behind him. "Please don't tell me you plan to eat all of those by yourself. I told you, you need to watch what you eat."

"I forgot the anniversary!" Kirk looked concerned.

McCoy appeared confused for a minute, then sighed and rolled his eyes. "Jim, I don't know why you're bothering. There is no way she's going to remember."

"Of course she will!" the Captain retorted. "And I owe it to her. She's gotten me through a lot."

The doctor shrugged. "I can't argue with you, kid. Just don't get too caught up in the whole thing."

"I owe it to her!" Kirk called as he jogged out of the mess hall.

"Captain!" Scotty hailed him as he went by. "You remember what today is, don't you?"

"Of course."

The engineer grinned. "Good man."

Kirk retrieved a small bouquet of flowers from his room, then made his way to a secluded corner of engineering. Here, a wide section of catwalk which ran only a few feet above the floor created a little room between two power cells. Kirk folded himself up to fit into the small space, then set the flowers and chocolates on the floor.

"Computer?"

"Yes, Captain Kirk."

"What is the significance of today?"

"Today is the one year anniversary of James T. Kirk becoming Captain of this vessel."

Kirk smiled. "Are you glad that I'm the Captain?"

"You and your crew have served the Federation well and kept me in optimum maintenance."

He patted one of the power cells. "Good girl. I brought you flowers and chocolates."

"Unfortunately, I can appreciate neither of these gifts."

"I know. I also know that it wasn't a surprise. But I wanted to say thank you for being so good."

"You are welcome, Captain James T. Kirk."
