This was actually written for a prompt on the SU kinkmeme about Rose trying human foods. Somehow, it turned into Greg/Rose. Just a short little fic- enjoy! Reviewers get internet doughnuts!
Light streamed through the windows of the little newly opened shop, illuminating the rows of fresh-baked, still warm sweets. Peering through the glass between her and the 'doughnuts', as Greg had called them, Rose let her gaze wander from one sugary treat to the next.
"You've never tried a doughnut?" Greg watched with disbelief, shook his head, and turned to the woman behind the counter. "Two doughnuts, please. The usual." She smiled, turned to the trays, and grabbed a pair of glazed rings, slipping them into a brown paper bag and holding it out. Greg handed it to Rose with a beaming grin, leaving her to satisfy her curiosity as he made conversation.
She opened the bag. Inside lay a pair of the rings, glistening with glaze. Rose could smell the sweetness of the glaze as it mingled with the scent of warm dough, and the heat of them reached her hand through the paper. Greg had insisted they get them early in the morning, to get them right out of the oven, and now she understood why: the warmth was pleasant, and somehow comforting.
Once Greg had finished at the cash, he reached for her hand and led her out, excited, sweet, and so, so young. He led her to a bench a short way off, then reached over and pulled the bag open, grabbing a doughnut and tearing a bit from it.
"Here." He grinned, holding it out, and she took it and popped it into her mouth. "So? What do you think?"
There were stars in her eyes when she turned to face him, and a grin stretched across her face. The sweetness of it filled her mouth, sending a happy buzz through her, and she chewed the soft dough with a contented look, eyes drifting shut so she could better enjoy the taste of the treat. She felt it when Greg handed her the rest of the sweet, and she took another bite- it was so soft!- and another, filling her world with sugar and the sticky feeling of not-quite-dry glaze. It clung to her lips and her fingers as she savored the warm morsels, lingering even after (far too quickly, she felt) the last of the doughnut vanished.
When her eyes opened as she realized the last of it was gone, she saw Greg watching her with smiling eyes and a gentle smile. His cheeks flushed to pink when he realized he'd been seen. Rose laughed, leaning in, and kissed him on the mouth.
"Delicious."
