Prompt from redphlox: Takari- I actually am not fond of cats

A/N This is my first TaKari fic to get myself into the groove for Takari Week 2015 on tumblr ^^ I hope it's alright

They walked home slowly, taking their time as the sky turned into a very warm orange. Kari always waited for TK, even though her cheer practice ended an hour earlier than his basketball practice, and even though he insisted that she went on ahead before it became dark.

She laughed every time he found her waiting at their lockers, and she would always twirl on her toes, bag in hand, looking back at him to take his first step. He would shake his head, scolding her for waiting even though he asked her to not, but he would hide a smile as he walked next to her.

That evening, they decided to take another path. Let's switch it up, Kari said, and TK was helpless to her led her down another road, still familiar, but different.

With a smile on her face, she asked him how his day was, and then after his answer, he asked about her's. She laughed, then brightly tell him about the interesting things she heard and seen that day. And TK laughed along side her, but he watched how her eyes crinkled and how they became crescents when she giggled. He saw how she threw her head back, her bob hair cut brushing her face, and how her bag followed the movement.

Kari was light, and she was what he looked forward to at the end of the day. Even though the sky grew darker, she lit his way.

But then a movement caught her attention, a cat. Kari knelt down immediately, her expression open and her hand extended. She coaxed it closer to her, making clicking noises with her tongue and wiggling her fingers.

It made TK want to come closer to her in place of the cat, and he almost did, too, until it hesitantly stepped forward. It sniffed her hand first, cautious of the stranger. When their eyes met, though, it nudged against her palm, and Kari scratched softly behind its ears.

TK put his hands on his waist. "You're a real cat person, aren't you?"

"I actually am not fond of cats." She glanced at him, unable to hide the twinkle in her eyes.

And they stayed that way for a while, on the side of the road with a purring cat at their legs as Kari continued the story of her day, and TK didn't miss a single detail.
