An idea I randomly thought of, dunno why I actually wrote it.
This character has no name or physical description, imagine them looking however you want.
I may lead this into a story, only time will tell.
I also have a poll on my profile page for the next story I write, please vote!
The Sunset
As I stood there, looking over the hill, all I could think of was that night. That horrible night that claimed the lives of 56 honorable Guardians. I should be with them. I thought to myself. I was cheated out of an honorable death like the rest of them when that damn roof collapsed on us. I was cut off from them as they fought and died. I gazed into the bright red sunset, and as it began to remind me of the blood of those that had fallen, and the eyes of those who killed them. I turned around and closed my eyes, but that didn't help.
I began to remember that night with crystal clear precision. Everything was normal, until they broke through. We thought it was a small group at first, just three or four, who had no idea what they had stumbled upon. As we soon realized though, that three or four was actually thirty or forty. They smashed their way through those who stood to defend others. They made it through the outer perimeter and to the second ward line within mere minutes, then it was only a matter of making someone pierce the line, and shatter the shield. A human was sufficient for the task, and in seconds, the deed was done.
They kept pushing, making it to the second ward line, where a few Guardians tried to stop them, getting surrounded and having their throats ripped out. They moved with lightning speed, more effective than Blitzkrieg, I thought to myself. And finally, the second line was peirced, and a third only a few minutes later.
They kept rushing us, as they made their way into the center of the campus. Moving building to building, they slaughtered Guardians and Moroi alike. No one was safe, and no one could stop them, or even slow them down. Then, as they left the buildings, they lit them aflame. The glow of burning wood and plastic lit the night sky, and their scent made us choke. We kept fighting, hoping we could stop them, we failed. Finally, we all moved back to the Queen's Residence for our final stand, and as they got in, they were pushed hard by Royal Guards who fought fiercely and bravely without fear. Unfortunately, fearlessness will only get you so far. As they pushed back again, more Guardians joined in. Eventually, they backed off, and as we pushed them back, it only got worse.
We pushed and they pushed, back and forth as we very slowly got them out of the building. Finally, as we got to the doorway, I heard that creaking and groaning of wood as the walls gave out and the ceiling collapsed in a burning hulk in front of me. I soon realized the awful truth, they lured out Guardians outside so they could burn the building down and leave. I was trapped, and I almost screamed as I heard the dying moans and groans of the Guardians who had been ambushed outside. I started to pull some of the rubble free to get myself outside, just as a beam swung down and struck my head.
Every time I think back to that night, I die a little inside, not because I think I could have done more, but because I couldn't have done anything more. I couldn't have saved anyone else there, I was even trapped by a burning building.
I was helpless, useless.
I am useless.
It may be short, but it is my first One-Shot, and I wrote it quickly. Be sure to let me know what you think. ;)
