Don't Look Back...Don't Look Back...

Obi Wan looked at the small child in his arms and sighed. This little boy was one of two links
back to the woman who had been Amidala Skywalker. He was probably the only link Obi Wan would
ever know.

Everyone says that it's no big deal
Nothing a little more time won't heal
Sooner or later the way I feel will change

The trip to Tatooine would be long, giving the Jedi Knight plenty of time to think. And brood.
He wasn't angry at Anakin. Well, actually, yes he was. It wasn't something he was proud of,
but Anakin Skywalker, now Darth Vader, had destroyed a beatufiul woman. *And himself* Obi Wan
reminded the inner monologue.
But the destruction of Amidala hurt Obi Wan more. Since their first encounter, when she was just
the young woman Padme, he had felt something for her. It had just been chivalry at first, but as
he had talked to her, learned about her, watched her in action, she became much more interesting.
The fact that she had fooled him for the duration of their trip was also intriguing.

But they've never hurt the way I do
'Cause they've never had to get over you
So they've never shared my point of view of the pain

He would never see her again. If Anakin didn't find her first, there just wouldn't be any safe
way for him to contact her. She was on Alderaan now, happy with Bail. Happy? No, maybe not
happy. But at least safe for the time being.
And he would miss her every day. She was a reminder of a good time, when the Republic had stood
tall and strong. Before the dark times...before the empire.

I've either gotta leave the past behind
Or find myself a way to lose my mind
I'm ready for a change of any kind
For better or worse
I'll take whatever comes first

The child whimpered in his arms. Obi Wan began to rock young Luke gently, making those
ridiculous cooing noises that everyone holding an infant did. The boy looked so much like
Anakin, it was disturbing. Obi Wan almost wished he'd gotten to take the girl instead, then
he would have a pleasant, albeit bittersweet, reminder of his previous life as a Jedi.

There's only so much a man can take
Before his reality starts to break
Especially holding an old heartache like you

The past loomed just behind Obi Wan's closed eyes. He saw the wedding that had broken his heart,
the lava pit that had almost killed his best friend, and the birth of two children destined for
a life of orphanage. And then her face was there again, tears running down her cheeks as she
handed him her son.

Somebody's leaving, I don't care who
But there's not enough room in my mind for two
It's finally come down to me or you

He wrapped Luke up tightly in the beige covered cloth, covering his own face as he stepped off
the transport. Owen would not be happy about this, but Beru had told him to come. Deep down,
he knew that his brother would love this child like his own, but Owen hated Obi Wan. Envy, or
whatever it was, had separated them ever since they had known about each other.

I've either gotta leave the past behind
Or find myself a way to lose my mind
I'm ready for a change of any kind
For better or worse

And now he was alone, sitting in a tiny hut in the middle of the desert. *I'm not allowed to
see him. See any of them. I can't keep my promise to her*

I'd do anything, go anywhere
Show me some way out and girl I'm there
It's gotten to the point where I don't care
Blessing or curse
I'll take whatever comes first
