She Wasn't Scared

She looked up at him, her blue eyes scared. Honestly, she wasn't that scared, of course not. Her trembling hands told otherwise. To her the board was awfully menacing now that she looked into it in detail. The boy next to her said nothing but place his hands on top of hers and silence enveloped them.

"You scared?" he asked with a smirk.

She threw him a look of annoyance that told him to be quiet. She was not scared, it was a stupid board after all, and it was certainly not going to make her look like a fool. She took a deep breathe, her blue eyes turning to determination. The black-haired boy started asking questions and before they knew it their hands started to move. Whether on it's own, she didn't know. Soon, they were nearing the end, the board summoning, boring so called spirits that the girl couldn't help but feel it was a waste of time. The boy must have thought so too as he cover his mouth to stifle a yawn.

Suddenly, the candles they lit for this went out. Both of them cried out in surprised, unsure of what to do next. It went by all by a blur. The girl could see the blur outline of the boy and a huge shadow, as it snatched the boy. Though she could not see the boy's terrified look on his face, she could hear his screams as he was dragged away. She was scared, terribly scared. She took off in a run, away from the room and his screams, but as she flung open the door away from the darkened house. She saw it, and she too scream, for it was going to be the last thing she was going to see.
