Only One

Nick and Jen were in the kitchen of his house, where she had begun staying more often than her own, and cooking dinner after a case had been solved. Reflecting on the day, Jen suddenly remembered something.

"Oh, I meant to ask you, what was that look you gave me when I was over talking to Wolfie?"

"What look?"

"You gave me a funny look. You were at your desk and Wolfie was asking me about my report from the last case, and you were staring at me."

Nick smirked to himself. "Oh. That."

"Yes, that. What was it for?"

"I don't actually want to tell you."

She smacked his arm. "Well now you have to tell me."

He turned away to put the casserole in the oven and nonchalantly said, "Sometimes when I'm bored, I like to picture you naked and plan what I'm going to do to you when we get home."

Her jaw dropped. "Nick! You do not!"

"I do. As I said, it's only when I'm bored. So not when we have an active case we're working on. It's a nice mental break from paperwork."

His casual tone was almost infuriating. "I don't know how much I like that you do that," Jen commented.

He just shrugged. "Well, you do seem to like what comes from my little brainstorming sessions."

She smacked his arm again.

Now he started to laugh. "I hate to tell you, but you're a very beautiful woman, and I'm sure I'm not the only man who looks at you and imagines you naked. I'm just glad I'm the only one who actually knows what you really do look like naked."

"No, Matty's seen me naked."

Nick dropped a spoon on the floor in surprise. "He what?!"

"Yeah, a few years ago. He would come pick me up for work sometimes. I was running late and had just gotten out of the shower and he saw me in the mirror when I was getting dressed. It wasn't a big deal."

"So nothing happened?"

Jen smiled. Nick was very rarely jealous. It was equally sweet and funny to witness. "He did ask me out, but I said no. I knew how awful it was to date someone you work with."

"Awful, is it?" He teased, moving to wrap his arms around her waist possessively.

"Yeah, awful. I only ever need to date one cop to know."

"Only one?"

"Yeah, only one. No more dating cops," she vowed.

"No more dating anyone," he corrected.

Jen just smiled and tilted her head up to kiss him.
