The Day Terry Died

The day Terry "Willy" Gannon died

Ireland lost it's shine of gold

The sky in itself didn't know whether to smile or cry

Ireland lost the most important man they'll ever know

He left his mark everywhere he went both for the good and the bad

A caring man who cared for everyone around him

In turn they loved him equally back

They say that the grass is greener on the other side

But the day Terry "Willy" Gannon died

The color green seemed to go from green to brown and then finally black

Tears and comforting words were shared

As Terry "Willy" Gannon lay dying in his hospital bed

Taking those finally last painful deep breaths

With all his loved ones around him

He fought all the way to the bitter end

Showing everyone how much of the bulldog terrier he was

With everyone grieving around him

All Terry "Willy" Gannon wanted to see and hear again

Was his younger brother and niece who was from the states

To hear and touch then again before passing into the afterlife

But sadly that wasn't the case Terry "Willy" Gannon took his last breaths

Just as they landed at Dublin Airport

But at least he was at peace

Laying there in the bed still warm to the touch

And with a slight smirk still present on his face

Standing in the silence of the room of the Nazareth nursing home

One wonders did Terry "Willy" Gannon know that me and my dad were there

Paying our final respects while he himself graced us with his presence

In an effort to sooth our pain grief and anguish

The day Terry "Willy" Gannon died

Ireland lost a strong man with a large appetite and a knack for enjoying life

Laughing and spinning countless old wives tales

Over countless pints of Guinness

The day Terry "Willy" Gannon died

The skies of Ireland full of big puffy white clouds

With breaks in between allowing the sunlight to seep through

Announcing to everyone and everything in Ireland

That my Uncle Terry "Willy" Gannon died

Has made peace with the world around him

As he moves on to the afterlife

And into gloryness that is heaven

Now he watches over all of us from heaven

Joining all of our loved ones that have passed

From the Gannon and McWeeney clans

Probably ordering them around making them laugh

In his attempt to make them watch over us more

Despite them telling him that we are alright and stop worrying

But knowing Uncle Terry he'll have and hear none of it

As he continues to watch over the people he loves

With an endless supply of vanilla ice cream cones with flakes on top

He has always and will continue to ask for about the well being of

His one and only favorite niece Katie Gannon from the states

And I in turn constantly ask about Uncle Terry everyday until his dying day
