"I'm sorry," said a tall man from behind John, "But I noticed that you don't have a riding partner, and it only seemed logical for me to ride with you. Do you mind?"

John turned around a bit startled and looked at the man, his eyes were a piercing blue and John couldn't find it in himself to say no. He had come with his sister and her date and was having a hard time socializing with both them and the people around them, but when this man asked in his baritone voice it was almost as if John had been hypnotized into saying yes.

"Sure," He said, giving a quick smile.

The blued eyed man smiled back a cheeky smile that looked almost forced.

"Welcome back riders…" The intercom announced and John turned back around getting ready to go on the ride.

The gates opened and they filed into the carts, John sat down and looked up at his new acquaintance who was giving the cart a weary look.

"May we switch seats?" He asked.

John, a bit confused, nodded and got up allowing the man to sit down where he was. He placed the seat belt tight around his waste and pulled the bar down. He gripped at the bar, his knuckles going white.

"First time on a roller coaster?" John asked.

The man stayed quiet, only nodding slightly. John smiled and strapped himself in the seat.

"Keep your head on the head rest and your hands in the vehicle at all times," The intercom said and john could see the man tense up with every word that the intercom pronounced. "3...2..." and they were off.

John began yelling, loving the exhilaration that the ride was providing him. The wind blowing in his face the small ups and downs, and then the ride slowed as they approached the big hill and the big drop. It was a 350 foot drop and the chains yanked the cart forward slowly. The man that sat next to John was beginning to look more like a frightened boy, his hands clutching at the bar, his feet pressed against the floor.

"You'll be okay," John said with a laugh.

The man just nodded and looked over to John, his face full of fear.

They reached the top and the first couple carts were hanging over the other side of the large hill. The man sank down in his seat as if it would make the drop any less scarier. John leaned forward, getting ready to put his hands in the air and as their cart fell on the other side of the hill, he felt a tug at his arm. The man clung to him, burying his face into John's shoulder. John looked down at the man and smiled placing his other arm over to the man's head, creating a protective barrier. They stayed like this until the ride came to a stop. The man sat up, his face still showing fear and looked at John.

"I'm… sorry…I,"

"No it's okay. I remember my first time on a rollercoaster," He said.

They got off the ride and John couldn't help himself.

"I'm John," he said placing his hand forward.

"Sherlock," he answered taking John's hand in his trembling hand. "Look at that," Sherlock said. "My body has betrayed me, I'm scared." he said with a nervous laugh.

"If you'd like, you could ride with me on the other rides too," John said smiling.

Sherlock looked up at him still a bit scared. "I have to get over this irrational fear some how... Sure."
