AN:I want to thank all of you for your wonderful reviews. To let you all know I try to update on Sundays as it is my only day off. It is also the only day I can be on the computer all day long without interuptions. Good for typing purposes. So sorry if I keep you all in suspense! But hey you guys do the same when I read your stories. I'm sure you'll learn to deal with it. Luv ya all. James
Nightlight
Pippin couldn't sleep. It was so dark here out in the wild. Aragorn had said there would be no fire this night. It was to much of a risk.
Pippin didn't like the dark. It was not that he was afraid of it, just well, there had always been a light burning at Tookburrow. His mother always had a light lit somewhere in the house. It may have been a small light but it was a comfort he was beginning to miss.
Out here in the wild were many things. Evil things that could not be seen. Dark creatures that were hunting them.
His mother had always told Pip that even the smallest light could keep the darkness at bay. How he wished he had brought a small candle.
Even if he had one though he doubt he would have lit it.
Pippin knew the others thought him rather young to be allowed on this Quest. Pip wanted to be taken seriously. He wanted to help and not be seen as a child. He wanted to be able to help his beloved cousin any way he could.
But oh, it was so dark tonight! Not even the stars were shining to night, hiding even their small comforting presence.
Pippin shifted uncomfortably, his eyes darting around the camp. The others were asleep except for Strider who was keeping watch. And himself of course, he was wide awake.
Pippin closed his eyes and tried to relax. He really did. He felt Merry shift against his back his breathe soft and relaxed. Pippin willed himself to find sleep like his cousin. But his eyes popped open of their own violation.
Movement drew his gaze to were Strider sat. The ranger rose to his feet his hand resting on the hilt of his sword.
Pippin tensed uneasily then relaxed as a familiar cloaked figure emerged from the trees.
Legolas. The elf laughed at Strider's readiness and called to him softly in that musical language. He removed his hood as he settled himself beside the man.
Pippin stared in wonder at the elf a moment. Legolas seemed almost luminescent in the dark. The elf gave off a gentle light that remained steady like a pale beacon.
Pippin smiled settling himself in his blankets as exhaustion swept over him. He had found his nightlight.
