Their love making is fierce, almost angry. Their fingers tangle together, each bruising the other in too tight grips.

Jyuushirou throws back his head and gasps for breath, writhing as Shunsui bites down on the tender part of his throat. There is no gentleness in his movements, but Jyuushirou does not ask for any. It's not about love, not strictly.

It's too late to apologise, too late for the words that either of them might have said. Too late to say 'I love you', too late to say 'forgive me', too late for anything. Jyuushirou woke up to see Shunsui's face above his, eyes cold and unforgiving without the shadow of the hat to hide his face. The expression said it all – you nearly killed me, and I could have killed you – but Shunsui never said a word except to tell him that Unohana wanted to speak to them both.

Shunsui's tongue traces the outline of the wound on Jyuushirou's inner arm, and the white haired man struggles to suppress the cry that rises in his throat. Shunsui's grip is painful, leaving marks on the fair skin, and in return Jyuushirou tangles his hands in Shunsui's hair, tugging his face upward for a kiss.

Two days after Jyuushirou had left Unohana's care – he is more frail than Shunsui after all – Shunsui walked him back to his division. In the short argument that followed, the impression of his knuckles in the table top remained. For some reason, the sight made Jyuushirou feel cold. So used to Shunsui's gentleness was he, that he quite forgot just what the other man was capable of. He wasn't made captain for nothing.

Shunsui's possession of his body is swift, and hard. Jyuushirou shudders, a low, keening sound filling the air. He arches upward, a part of him aching deep inside. Jyuushirou loses control abruptly, his eyes sliding shut as he feels Shunsui stiffen above him and then groan. For a long moment there is silence and stillness, and then Shunsui gets up, and gets dressed.

It is the first and only night they sleep in separate beds.

It's too late to apologise, it's too late…'
