Sweet Mess

The entire kitchen in the Mikaelson-Pierce home was a mess. There were broken eggshells, cake mix, and frosting all over the kitchen counter. There was a pile of dishes in the sink and the water was running. And something had either died in the kitchen. Or Katherine had burned something again. It wouldn't be the first time either.

"Elijah!"

Elijah turned around and saw Katherine standing in the middle of the disaster area. Her cheeks were flushed in embarrassment. Her clothes were covered in chocolate cake mix. There was flour and egg yolk in her hair as well as on her face. "What are you doing here so early?"

"I think the better question is," Elijah said looking at the ceiling and saw that it was also covered with cake mix. "What happened here?"

"I was trying to make a cake." She replied sheepishly.

"I can see that, trying being the implied word."

Katherine whacked him playfully on the shoulder. "Excuse me, your highness I was trying to be thoughtful and in your own words a 'selfless' person. It's your birthday in case you forgot, I was trying to bake you a cake."

"You remembered?" Elijah sounded pleasantly surprise.

Katherine rolled her eyes. "Of course I remembered, silly."

Elijah pulled her close and kissed her forehead, trying not to laugh as he saw the flour in her hair. "That was very thoughtful. Thank you, Katerina for . . . all of this."

Something fell on Elijah's head then dribbled down his forehead. He dabbed some of the chocolate mix with his finger and licked it. "Not bad," he dabbed some on Katherine's nose, making her smile. "Though, next time sweetheart I would prefer it if you simply bought a cake instead of destroying my kitchen."
