Chasing Dangerous Memories

Ch.1 *Mysteries and Questions*

12:30 AM, Spring 1, Year 1

It was night and the darkness seemed to swirl around all those who dared to leave the safety of their homes. The rain was pelting down like merciless missiles from the heavens and the wind howled like the wild dogs of Hell. There on the beach stood two shrouded figures overlooking the frail body of an unconscious young woman with mild amusement in their hidden eyes. One of the mysterious figures turned to the other who was looking out to the ferocious sea and unforgiving waves.

"What are you thinking about?" the first asked, wondering why the other's eyes were so glazed over.

"This is becoming quite the storm." the second commented quietly. If it weren't for the fact of the first being so close, the second's words would have never been heard over the howling wind.

"Yeah, but don't change the subject, what are we gonna do about HER!" the first figure said accusingly while pointing to the girl lying on the beach. The first said with a building rage, "She knows… she knows damnit!"

"You don't think I know that!" the first hushed instantly from hearing this from the usually quiet companion who continued while facing the first, "Though it really doesn't matter because I can sense she's lost her memory, so she won't pose a threat anymore…" the second said while turning back to watch the waves and wind continue in their deadly dance.

"Yeah, but what if she remembers?" the first asked while the other turned back to look at the questioner curiously and inquired, "What do you mean?"

"I mean I can sense strange magick on this island. What happens then?!?!" the first said, infuriated at the fact that the other was being so light about all of this!

The second glared at the first while saying, "Well if she remembers who she truly is, then we will simply have to dispose of her…" the second sighed, "But for now she still may have use to us, so we must wait."

The first wasn't too thrilled about it, but knew that it wouldn't make much of a difference. So the first sighed and asked resigned, "So what do I tell the others…?"

The second paused for a bit while contemplating this, and then said, "Tell them she died from drowning after being washed overboard off the ship she was fleeing on, but tell Leader the true facts. He wants her alive for now, but no one else must know she still breathes." They both stared at the topic of their conversation as if she were a toy that they had grown bored of playing with.

"Alright," the first growled, "but I don't like it. I'd rather kill her now, but I guess we'll have to wait."

The second said sadly," I agree, but orders are orders… Oh well, maybe Leader will realize she's past her prime and let us have our way with her. Until then though, we are done with this dump." the second leaned down to whisper menacingly in the girl's ear, "Oh and happy New Year, Melody…" And with that they vanished into the darkness of the night, leaving the unconscious girl to lay there until she was found in the morning by a group of girls passing by…
