She had already burrowed her way into his heart.

It had only been a mere hour since Cas appeared, bundle in his arms, and he interrogated the poor angel relentlessly; accusing him of stealing the infant from a near by hospital. That that is a new low for him.

Cas had slunk away and Dean felt horrible inside. Yet, left in his arms, bundled in dark pink blankets, a small baby girl sleeps peacefully.

Her golden hair curls on top of her precious head, soft and shiny. Reminding him much of the story of Rumpelstiltskin; the spinning of straw into gold.

Her eyes dart about under closed lids. Long dark lashes lay gently on her rosy cheeks. Her nose comes to a cute small point and her bottom lip juts out ever so slightly. Her ears small and hidden by her golden hair.

She had taken his breath away after Cas set her in his arms and left. He feels a tug deep in his heart that he can only describe as that he knows she is 'family'.

He runs his right rough thumb over her lips. She slowly cracks open her eyes in annoyance, looking at him sternly.

Her right eye, green as a Mediterranean sea, smooth as a piece of jade. Her left eye is as blue as the sky, yet deep as the milky way. Simply beautiful.

He carefully, quietly, counts every one of her tiny toes and fingers; marveling at her small finger and toe nails.

She begins to fuss and he stops out of fear of not wanting to hurt her. His is much stronger than her, a hunter.

She already has him wrapped around her little finger. Making his heart melt.

She yawns with a large open mouth, showing him her tongue and gums before settling back down again.

His heart beats hard in his chest as he watches her fall back to sleep in his arms.

"I did not steal her."

Dean turns his head and looks back over one shoulder to see Castiel.

"I know," he whispers quietly, "I'm sorry Cas."

"She is your's, Dean. She is a Winchester."

His heart beats harder and faster as he begins to think on the matter, and looks down on the small babe in his arms.

"How?" he croaks, his voice deciding to leave him. Watching a smile appear on Cas' face, making him feel high.

"Angel magic, Dean," is all Castiel tells him and he prefers that answer to a scientific one.

"Wh...What...is her name?"

"Anna. Anna-Lucia. Gracious, merciful, light."

Dean looks back down on the small baby girl in his arms. Cas sits down beside him on the motel bed.

"This...this...is...wow...too much, Cas. Hard to believe..."

"Believe, then."

The angel then disappears without another word, leaving Dean alone with the infant once again.

There comes a jingle of keys in the door and Sam slips inside.

"Sam," Dean whispers to his brother and he turns to face them, grocery back in his hands. The young Winchester blinks a few times and approaches slowly.

"You're holding her," Sam smiles, sitting down beside his brother. "She's quiet."

Together they watch her for what they feel is hours till Castiel returns. There is ice cream and pie, and a birthday party.
