false courage

You always wondered why you were different. As a teenager, you were never interested in girls (more like boys). While your friends and your brother gawped at the Weasley girls in short shorts and tight tops, you silently wondered if anyone else had noticed how good Teddy Lupin looked.
When you were twenty-one, you finally accepted that you were gay, and came out.
Teddy was there more than anyone – you hadn't talked to each other much previously to that, but now he was one of the only boys you could face. All the Weasleys, Scorpius and your brother were fine, too, but Teddy was the one you appreciated most. A lot of other boys assumed that you fancied every boy ever, just because you were gay. Teddy knew how it really was.
"How do you do it?" he asked, once, and you were confused.
"I don't," you said. "It's just a part of me, and I have to realise that people aren't always going to understand that."
Teddy smiled, and your heart fluttered.
"I admire your courage," he said.
Haha, you think. He wouldn't think I was so courageous if he realised that I don't even have the bravery to tell him how I feel.
