"Lily, are you sure about this?" James asked quietly as they both stood in the doorway of their children's bedroom. Light from the hallway shone past their bodies and dimly lit the room to reveal two sleeping children.

"We can't take care of both of them, James. It's too dangerous, and it wouldn't be fair to Harry, he'll grow up in her shadow." Lily breathed in deeply," I don't want what happened between me and my sister to happen to them."

"So we send our only son away? Put him in a family that we don't even know? Muggles who won't know how to raise a child like-"

"My parents did just fine," Lily said, an edge to her voice, but then she sighed. "I don't like this either, okay? But Dumbledore said it was for the best, and I just want them safe."

A moment passes in silence, then James said," Alright, if you're sure about this, we'll do it. Let me contact Albus then." With a quiet sigh, James turns around and walks back down stairs.

Lily took a few steps into the room and sat on the edge of her son's bed. Tears burn in her eyes, but none fall. She sweeps a few locks of black hair away from his face and cups the back of his head with her palm. She will never see him grow up, never see him on his first bike or first day of school, never see his first crush or...or anything. She chokes back a sob. This isn't how she expected her life to turn out having to give up one of her children for the safety of both, but here she was, minutes away from giving him up.

She rubbed gentle circles on the back of neck, and whispered quietly, "You are so loved. Mummy loves you. Daddy loves you. Be safe, be strong. I wish you could stay with us, darling. I am so sorry."

She could hear footsteps in the hallway, and she knew she only had seconds now. She presses her lips to his forehead, over the scar that reminded her why he had to leave. "Goodbye, Harry. I love you."

"Lily, it's time."

Seven Years Later

"Harry! Hermione! Where are you?" a voice sang out, followed by the loud taps of fingernails against the wall.

The two children stifled their giggles behind their hands, watching each other with amused eyes as they hid in their bedroom closet.

"I know you're here somewhere," the voice said again, this time closer. "I'm gonna find you." They heard her steps as she entered the room and the pair became deathly quiet. "I wonder where they could be? They weren't in the bathroom, or the kitchen," the voice was now so very close to where they were. "Or in the backyard. Mmmm, maybe they could be..." The voice trailed off, and the children could hear no footsteps. They held their breath and-

"HERE!" the voice shouted and threw open the closet doors. The two children shrieked as the tumbled out of the closet. They looked up.

"You cheated mum," Harry said, scrambling to get up off the floor.

"And how would I do that?" Jenna Granger replied, hands on her hips as she stared down at her children, mostly amused if anything.

"You didn't close your eyes," her daughter, Hermione, said as she too got off the floor. "Or miscounted."

"Or maybe I heard you two giggling."

Their cheeks colored. "Or maybe that," Harry admitted. "Can we play again?"

Their mother looked at the watch on her wrist. "Sorry, you two. But your father will be home from that meeting soon. Need to get dinner ready."

They both groaned, but said okay anyways. But then, from below, they hear the doorbell ring.

"I got it!" Hermione said, and quickly ran out of the room.

"Hermione wait! Don't open it if-" Mrs. Granger tried to say, but was quickly cut off with a loud "Hello!" She sighed," Come on, Harry, let's see who that was."

When the two arrived down stairs, just inside the doorway stood a woman dressed in emerald green robes with a pointed hat on top of her head. She gives a small smile to the three of them. "I'm sorry for the intrusion, but I am Professor McGonagall, and I was hoping I would be able to speak with you about your children."

"Oh, of course. You would like to take a seat ?Can I get you some tea or?" Mrs. Granger asked, trying to hide her surprise and worry. This couldn't be anything bad, could it?

"Thank you, ," the older woman replied as she sat down in one on the chairs. "Tea would be lovely."

"Of course, if you would just give me a moment."

A few moments later, Jenna comes back from the kitchen with two cups of tea, one in each of her hands and gives one to McGonagall.

Jenna sits down in another chair, and her children take the couch. "So, what would you like to discuss with me?"

McGonagall looked at Jenna and then the children," Do you believe in magic?"

Hermione and Harry look at eachother before mumbling a quick no. After all, why would they? Magic isn't real.

Jenna let out an awkward laugh," I'm sorry, and I mean no offense, but is this some kind of joke?" This woman had to be joking.

"I'm afraid not, Mrs. Granger. I should've said this beforehand, but I teach at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a school where we teach children like your son and daughter."

Harry spoke up,"Children like us?"

The woman looked at the boy, a look passing over her face before returning to normal. "Children who can preform magic." She gives them a small smile," Tell me, have you two ever done something when you were upset or angry, something that you could never explain?"

A guilty look passes between the pair, but both remained silent.

"There's been...instances," Jenna answered haltingly, unsure if she should confess to this woman what has happened in this house. "Nothing too bad, but yes, they both have."

A quiet laugh comes from the woman," Well, there you have it." She stands up and retrieves something from her robes. "Should you wish to accept the invitations, here are they're letters, supply lists, and how to get to Diagon Alley. Have a good day."

Jenna takes the papers," Uh, thank you? You as well."

The woman walks out the door and with a wink, suddenly disappears.

"Mum!" Hermione said alarmed. "Did you see that?"

"Yes, yes I did."

Harry looked up at his mother," So, are we going? I mean..."

Jenna looked down at the papers. "I'll talk to your father and see. Do you two want to go?"

"Yes!" They both said excitedly.

Later that night, after they convinced their father of that day's events, both children went to bed excited for September the 1st to come, after all who wouldn't be excited to go to a magical school.
