Hello everyone, since this is my first time writing I'd like to address a few things first, I would prefer for comments to be constructive criticisms or feedback that can help me in the future and if you could keep potentially offensive comments to the minimum that would be great.

Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter, however some speech and text elements will be borrowed from the books

Chapter 1: Smile And Show The World That Fake Face

September 1st 1991

When he first caught a glimpse of her nothing else mattered, eyes drawn to her rich, glossy, brown hair and striking purple eyes. Those were the best part about her, her deep, heart shatteringly beautiful eyes, that matched his in every way except colour. Then the gut wrenching sound of the Sorting Hat shouting out "Slytherin", and all he could think about was the fact that he would barely know her, that they couldn't be friends.

October 30th 1994

The entire school had congregated on the lawn in the shadow of the castle, a shiver seemed to ripple through the crowd, grumbling could be heard from all the houses. Harry couldn't care less. It was another oppurtunity to glimpse Her. Daphne Vivienne Greengrass. Even her name was elegant, it fit her perfectly, with her perfect posture and not a hair out of place. Harry wished he could go over and start a conversation with her, despite the animosity between the two houses. If only Malfoy didn't have to be the most vocal about his views, if he didn't there might be more inter-house unity.

Harry's attention was torn from Daphne as a shout from one of the Creevey's brought his attention to the powder-blue horse drawn carriage came in to land, the ground shaking with the speed of the elephant-sized horses. As it rumbled to a stop, everybody waited with baited breath to see what would happen next. A boy jumped out and lowered some steps, seemingly to make it easier to access, and then leaped to the side just as a shining, black leather shoe appeared, followed by what Harry reckoned to be the tallest person he had ever seen. Despite her size she seemed to move with grace somewhat akin to that of a ballerina.

As Professor Dumbledore moved forward to greet her, Harry's attention wandered and his gaze fell on the students gathered behind the woman, who had been talking rather animatedly with Dumbledore, who ended the conversation by saying "Madame Maxime, would you like to proceed in to the great hall, or stay here and wait for the Durmstrang students?" With a final whispered sentence, the woman, who had to be Madame Maxime led her pupils inside, to the chagrin of the crowd assembled outside.

For the next fifteen minutes, even though it felt like longer, the Hogwarts students stood shivering outside the Entrance Hall, until a shout from Lee Jordan brought everybody's attention to the lake, where the water was churning and frothing, a mast slowly rising out of the water, a ship appeared, with eerie, green, glowing portholes and dark timbers. A gangplank lowered and figures filed off one by one. As they came into view Ron sucked in a breath next to Harry's ear, and hissed "It's Victor Krum.", this seemed to be the focal point of the sudden abundance of conversation. Girls started frantically rifling through their pockets, searching for a quill, whispering excitedly.

The Durmstrang students were led inside, after pleasantries were exchanged between the two headmasters, followed by all the Hogwarts students.

As Harry, Hermione and Ron took their seats discussions had broken out in all the houses, the attention focused solely on two people, Viktor Krum, and a girl from Beauxbatons, who seemed to be mostly attracting attention from the male part of the school. Ron seemed to be torn between who to look at.

A hush fell over the crowd as Professor Dumbledore stood up "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, ghosts and - most particularly - guests, I have great pleasure in welcoming you all to Hogwarts. I hope and trust that your stay here will be both comfortable and enjoyable."

At this statement a derisive lagh could be heard from a girl from Beauxbatons, who was still clutching a muffler. Harry nearly missed Hermione whispering "No one's making you stay" rather aggresively.

Dumbledore contined despite the disturbance ."The Tounament will officially be opening at the end of the feast and I now invite you all to eat, drink, and make yourselves at home."

Dumbledore sat down, and Harry saw Karkaroff lean forward lean forward immediately and engage him in conversation.

The spell that Dumbledore seemingly had over the hall was broken and everyone turned to the dishes in front of them, which had filled with food as soon as Dumbledore had sat down.

"So how was your summer Harry?"

Harry's attention was torn from gazing across the hall at Daphne by Hermione's question.

"It was good, mostly because the threat of Sirius barging in kept them in line. It meant that, for once, I was able to do my homework before Mr. Weasley, Ron and the twins came to pick me up" Harry reminisced. "And how was your summer Hermione?"

As Hermione began to rattle off the finer points of her time at home, Harry was attempting to listen whilst trying to find something to look at.

Inevitably Harry's gaze was drawn to the perfect beauty of Daphne, just as she looked down at her plate. It was almost as if she was gazing at him and was too shy to admit it, even to herself.

As Harry was considering this Hermione had finished explaining her summer and had turned to Ron to ask about his, Harry realised he probably should have been paying attention to his friends, not someone who he could never be friends with.

As he picked at his food whilst half listening to Ron recounting his summer, Harry wished that he could have a chance to get to know the person behind the famed 'Ice Queen' mask, and maybe find out why she acted that way.
