Anime: Yu-Gi-Oh!

More than anything, it's a one-sided hatred. Seto Kaiba is unable to handle failure. He has always been used to winning, and having everything handed to him. He has enough money to make all of his dreams come true, accept beating his rival's more confident side in a children's card game*.

His rival was the kind of guy that everyone liked. He met him once during school a few years before he had dyed his hair brown** so that people would quit making fun of him for it. They started playing Duel Monsters together, and then it happened. He met Yuugi's other side.

Yami was his name. He had a frightening aura, and a deeper voice than his original childish, girly voice***. He considered their tie to be his first loss in years, and he became obsessed.

Seto used his riches to buy equipment to make Duel Monsters more exciting, and to hopefully gain the upper hand against Yami. He failed until the day he cheated by threatening his own life if the other didn't forfeit. Yami turned back into Yuugi and cried. He then left, knowing that he'd still lost despite the fact that it was the shorter boy who had given in, but this time he was even more annoyed. He was taking everything too far, and he was in too deep to end the game here. He had to win.

He took every step necessary to beat his rival, to no avail.

Over the months, his obsession grew. Most who met him or knew him well enough dubbed him 'crazy'. NO ONE is that obsessed with someone just because they lost to them in a game. There had to be something hidden within all of these hateful emotions. No one dared to say so, though. They patiently waited for the day that Kaiba would discover the real reason, himself, because if they angered him with the truth at such an early stage, he had the money to wipe their faces off of the planet, and no one could sue him.

By now, Yami has his own body and goes to school with Yuugi. The fake brunette now knows that it's not a more confident Yuugi, but a completely different soul. Now he's more obsessed than ever before.

Slowly, he tried to understand what he's been doing with his life as he begins to come to his senses. He realized that Yuugi wasn't his enemy. It was all Yami. He wanted to make it up to the younger, star-haired boy, but by now, it was too awkward. He just stayed silent. When he found the opportunity to catch Yami alone, though, they would duel.

Now, it was just to see him. He wanted to understand the darker Yuugi. They were more like competitive friends in everyone else's eyes.

Yami doesn't hate Kaiba despite all that the once green-haired boy had done to him. Seto still has a hard time handling the fact that his enemy can be so forgiving in spite of all the pain he's made Yuugi and his friends and family suffer through over the years.

The rich boy had started dreaming things about his rival. He hated these dreams. He woke up sweaty, sticky, and confused. His world had been turned upside down ever since the first day they met. Now, it wasn't just hatred, it wasn't an on-going, worsening obsession over something he could never have, and something he was too proud to admit.

These newfound feelings made his hatred grow for his enemy, and yet he craved him. It was worse than he could ever imagine.
