There was an old black and white movie playing on the small TV screen in her cheap apartment. However; Faye wasn't watching it. She was staring at the flickering images, but she wasn't seeing them. She wasn't doing anything, expects sitting, curled up on the sofa, while the rain beat on the cracked window panes.
Spike was gone. She still could not get over this fact. He had gone to his death on Mars, whisked away in his self built coffin. Faye had watched him hammer each nail in, every time he lay on the yellow couch after a peril fight. She never knew why he wanted to die so much. Jet knew why Spike was preparing his grave, so why didn't she? Why did she have to be the last to know about Julia? He could have told her. He didn't have to wait until their last moment together to tell her everything. Why did he tell her everything the night Vicious was granting his death wish? Why?
She stared ahead of her. The credits of the movie began to play, but she didn't see those either. She only thought about the night they had spent together and the word that made her walk out of the Bebop the night before Julia appeared.
"You're nothing but a fuck buddy."
He had called her a fuck buddy. The word tolled through her like a funeral bell. When he had first said it, she pretended it didn't matter, that it was only a few words. That it was how he had treated her that was more important. But all along it was the truth. She was his live in play toy. She was someone for his bed. Someone to amuse himself with.
Nothing more than that.
Nothing more than: fuck buddies.
Her body immobile, curled up on the sofa; she had been sitting there, for what seem liked forever. Her skull felt hollowed out, her breath solidifying in her lungs. Her whole body felt as if it was slowly freezing. She sat there for so long her blood was not properly flowing, but she liked the numb feeling.
Closing her eyes; she let her hand fall over her stomach. It has been almost two months since Spike had left, and still no one knew but her. Jet knew she was, but he thought it belonged to her ex-boyfriend, Joseph, who she just kicked to the curb. But it wasn't Joseph. It wasn't anyone who was still alive. Letting a tear roll down her cheek; Faye sadly smiled.
Julia Anna Spiegel
Or
Michael Jet Spiegel
Either way, the child's last name would be Spiegel. Just like their daddy.
