Narcissa's Loves
Dedication: Nyce17, because they suggested it.
Narcissa Black never loved her mother. Who would, when she was a cold-hearted woman who gave her daughter over to the care of a house elf the instant she was born.
Narcissa Black never loved her father. His only response upon hearing of her birth was to lament that she was not a male heir.
Narcissa Black never loved her sister, Bellatrix. The other girl was hateful, and spent much of her time tormenting the younger girl.
Narcissa Black did, however love her sister, Andromeda. Andromeda was the one who protected her from Bellatrix, and later the one who dried her tears and bound her wounds after her father beat her. Andromeda was the one who explained the world and told her that there was one that was different from the horrible one where they lived.
Narcissa Black did not love Regulus Black. He was even younger than she, and quiet and boring.
Narcissa Black did not love Sirius Black, her cousin. He hated her, believing that she was weak.
Narcissa Black did not love Lily Evans. The other girl was a muggle, and did not deserve to be at Hogwarts. That was what her parents had always told her, and, even if she didn't love them, she respected them, and their authority over her.
Narcissa Black loved Lucius Malfoy. He was handsome, and treated her well. He was kind to her, and did not beat her the way her father had beaten her mother.
Narcissa Malfoy did not love Severus Snape. For all that her husband thought he was brilliant, and her son as well as time went on, she never felt comfortable around him.
Narcissa Malfoy did not love the Death Eaters. They stole all hints of normalcy from her life.
Narcissa Malfoy loved her son, Draco. He was perfect, and the moment she saw his face for the first time she knew that it was to this being that she would dedicate the rest of her life.
Narcissa Malfoy despised Tom Riddle, also known as Lord Voldemort, He Who Must Not Be Named, and You-Know-Who. He stole her husband and her son from her, and caused her more pain than anyone she had ever known.
When the final battle came and Harry Potter lay in her hands, she could have given him over to a man her parents would have worshiped. Could have given him to the man who had controlled many aspects of her life, directly and indirectly for almost as long as she could remember. Instead she asked him for hope. Then he said the one word that made her life worth continuing. Yes.
Narcissa Malfoy never loved Harry Potter. However, for many years afterwards, whenever something good happened in her life, she would remember him, and thank him mentally.
When she visited her husband, she remembered Potter. When her son was married, she thought of how she owed it to Harry. When her grandson, Scorpius, was born, she thanked the Boy Who Lived, remembering that without him she would never have loved again.
Author's note: This is part of a series called Reflections. They are about characters reflecting on a bunch of different things. There are others, each about a different character. I am asking for suggestions of characters whose reflections you want to see. I will dedicate the story to you if you suggest a character, as well as sending you a message when I put the story up if you sign your review. Please give me suggestions. I promise to respond to every review.
