Mabel trudged through the woods, rain pouring down with such speed it felt like nails.

One year, she thought, one year.

One year since she lost her brother because of Gideon, no, because she didn't make it in time, she was too late.

She didn't think Gideon would seriously attempt to kill her brother or take over Gravity Falls.

One year ago.

The bridge collapsed when Gideon's giant robot fell, throwing both Gideon and Dipper out of the robot and off the cliff. Mabel had her grappling hook, but Dipper was too far away for her to catch him.

Gideon landed in a mass of trees, surviving the fall, but Mabel never forgave him. When she found out he survived, she immediately beat him down and had to be dragged away by her great-uncle Stan.

Stan helped her parents arrange the funeral, and Mabel left Gravity Falls soon after.

Her friends, Candy and Gerda, stopped talking to the distant Mabel soon after.

Mabel's personality took a complete turn. She cut herself off from everyone. Her obsessive crushes stopped. She tore down all of her bright posters and bright merchandise. She stopped wearing her colorful sweaters and cut her hair and often wore it in a bun.

Often times, she locked herself on her room, shut all the blinds, and ignored her parents knock on the door.

She was no longer forced to go to school, which Mabel greatly appreciated. None of her old friends from her hometown have contacted her since her brother died.

Waddles was still a close companion to Mabel, being the last living being she would want to talk to.

However, she time she left him at home.

The anniversary of her brother's death was today.

He was buried in the local cemetery, where Mabel was heading.

She opened the gate, walking towards the small headstone.

Even when he's gone, he's still solving the next mystery.

Mabel felt the tears rolling down her cheeks.

"I'm sorry, Dipper. I sorry for teasing you, annoying you… I'm sorry I didn't make it on time." Mabel choked. "They're making me go back. Isn't that ridiculous? Like I want to go back to Gravity Falls, where Gideon killed you for what a stupid-"

Mabel cut off. "The journal!"

She remembered Stan taking the journal for the Mystery Shack ideas.

"It has to have something! Why Gideon wanted it so badly, and it might even…" she sighed. "I'm hoping too much about the second part. But if I can find out why… Maybe I can finish solving the mystery behind Gravity Falls."

Mabel turned to leave, but then she finished with, "I swear I'll find out, Dipper. I swear on your grave."

She pulled the hood on her raincoat down more as she exited the graveyard.
