I didn't even want it to happen.
But how did it all start?
I wake up, all curled up nicely in a blue bean bag, only to be prodded by a certain tech geek.
"Sam, what are you doing here?"
The face of Freddie Benson towers over me, twisted with confusion and concern.
In a split of a second, I grab the pillow I was using earlier and throw it in Freddie's direction. He comes crashing down like a sack of potatoes, groaning in pain.
"Sam!" he yells my name.
I stand up from the bean bag, silently praying for the weird feelings in the pits of my stomach to go away. Maybe it's the barbequed ribs again. "Sorry, I don't like nubs waking me up."
He rolls his eyes. "Moving on, Princess Puckett, I'm just over here fixing up some cables that gone a little haywire since our show last night. There might be an electric shortage, so don't touch anything. Got it?"
"Whatever." I plop myself into the bean bag again. "Where's Carly?"
Freddie moves to his little stupid tech station and pulls out pliers. "I thought you were with her. It's raining pretty hard outside. Is she's down at the Groovy Smoothie?"
A realization brightens in my mind. "Ah, I think she's on her little date with that new British dude, Alfie Jones. He's smokin'."
I could see his ears go red as he continues to work quietly, probably from jealousy, and I snicker a little. I watch Freddie work on his equipment, his gloved hands moving quickly all over the wires and cables and he wears a look of seriousness that almost makes me want to laugh.
How could I forget?
Freddie Benson loves Carly Shay.
My best friend.
She's pretty, smart, and funny.
Showers every day too.
And most of all, really nice.
What am I?
The sidekick.
The tomboy.
The brute, the aggressive one.
I shake my head violently. Why should I care about Freddie and Carly? He's been chasing her since practically forever.
Why should I care?
Why?
Suddenly, I hear electricity zapping and I pop my eyes open in time to see Freddie Benson cower away from his equipment, coming alive with all the electricity.
"Freddie!" I scream, springing straight up and moving to get close.
"Sam, stay back!" he shouts as the equipment makes a huge spark and I'm thrown off my feet.
The lights flicker into nothing.
Outside, the rain transforms into a violent thunderstorm.
"Freddie?"
