Journeying towards the horizon without a goal,
Purpose lost within the concrete creases at her feet…
Waters immersing around her in a dream that never seems to meet it's
End.
Screaming for the heart devoid of her
Knowing she'll never touch what can't be held
the arrhythmic heartbeat that wills her tired legs to run.
Racing the sun to meet twilight's embrace (his shallow breaths…)
Leaving all thoughts of them behind
Shrouded in the contents of her mind,
muddled by lack of oxygen.
Run hard.
She hears the voice just above her,
the lingering assurance that she's still awake (still somewhere in there)
but it's not him she wants to hear.
Clutching the other's heart in tightened tension,
fragments of cold surrender surrounding her
she screams.
Coherency filters into her surroundings
His face is familiar but not comforting
for his eyes, though they look, are not seeing.
She remembers then what she was told:
"There is no light if not for darkness"
slowly the gears of her mind turn smoothly
and she understands.
Beside her is time's second captor
and the hallowing space between the last remaining moments
of the memory.
The ocean tides throw down the waves a final time
and the two of them open their eyes to one another.
Twilight is upon the world and with no other thoughts she kisses him.
The other's eyes are burning through her from above (they pick now to see clearly)
But the nightmare has come and gone,
All consequences know no comparison to the one she's just avoided
on his lips she leaves the last traces of her fear
and on the ground she moves to stand up to the last fragments of doubt
(she'll grind them down)
She knows who has her heart and she no longer denies it.
Pulling away from him she takes in the scent of his indigo hair and reminds herself to
Breathe.

End Notes: This poem is meant to describe Hikari lost in a memory revolving around the "dark ocean" in which she's searching for the only person she knows will understand what she is going through and who can help her. (Ken) She then begins to come back to reality at the sound of Takeru's voice (when she does she sees his face and says he is not the one she wishes to see.) Beside her she notices Ken and the dream/memory vanishes. The two kiss and celebrate their freedom from the past.
