At First Sight
A/N This is just a quick story about Landon's first true realization with Jamie…all the way to the kiss…
Disclaimer: I don't own Landon (or Shane though that's not my choice) or Jamie/Mandy Moore. I don't own any lyrics to "Only Hope" I don't own any A Walk To Remember scenes, although I wish I could take credit for such an awesome movie.
"Landon? Landon we're going on soon," the director's soft voice called from behind the curtain.
"Ok coming," he groaned. He hated this whole thing. First he lands a friend a spot in the hospital. Then he takes the full blame, hangs out with the school geek, and makes a total fool of himself. He stepped on stage in full costume, blushing at the audience's gaze. He saw his friends waving like crazy, and laughing at him hysterically. Some friends. He sank into a chair, embarrassment full-fledged now. He just couldn't take his eyes away from the students, laughing their heads off. But then, when Jamie stepped onstage his gaze shifted. He gasped. This couldn't possibly be her. Jamie Sullivan. School dork, preacher's daughter, un-cool, ugly fool. But yes…it was. He could only gap at her. Her long brown hair, normally plain and grungy, was curled in spirals, cascading in soft waves down her back. Her eyes were shimmering, and her face had a glow about it…she was almost…sparkling. She's positively beautiful he thought dreamily. Although he could never admit that to his buds. He'd be lucky if they ever let him live this down, let alone actually having a crush on the school dork. Landon heard the cue to begin and took his place onstage. He fell into the lines of the play, truly believing in it. Then he heard music. He watched Jamie step onto the riser. He heard the opening notes as she opened her pretty mouth to sing.
"There's a song that's inside of my soul.
It's the one that I've tried to write over and over again.
I'm awake in the infinite cold.
But you sing to me over, and over, and over again.
Landon gazed astounded at her sweet musical voice. He was amazed at how clear and magical her voice sounded.
"So I lay my head back down.
And I lift my hands and pray.
To be only yours I pray.
To be only yours I know now, you're my only hope.
Landon heard her pause before starting the next verse. He couldn't get over this girl's beauty. She seemed nervous in such an innocent, cute way. He already adored her.
"Sing to me the song of the stars," she started again.
"Of your galaxy dancing, and laughing and laughing again.
When it feels like my dreams are so far.
Sing to me of the plans that you have for me over again.
So I lay my head back down.
And I lift my hands and pray.
To be only yours I pray.
To be only yours I know now.
You're my only hope."
Landon sat back, his face showing nothing but pure admiration.
"I give you my destiny.
I'm giving you all of me.
I want your symphony.
Singing an all that I am.
At the top of my lungs, I'm giving it love.
So I lay my head back down.
And I lift my hands and pray.
To be only yours I pray.
To be only yours I pray.
To be only yours I know now, you're my only hope."
She finished the song with a bright smile at the audience's applause. They were amazed by her voice. Landon was amazed by her courage. They finished the play, him in a daze. When it got to the kissing part he got nervous. This would tell. There was no looking back. If he kissed her now it could change his life forever. He couldn't back out once he knew his true feelings. He was pretty sure he knew what they were. Their lips met, hers soft and gentle. They kissed-and he believed it wasn't just a kiss for a play, but a real kiss. Filled with love, devotion and trust. Excitement filled him. For the later days to come. Maybe love at first sight really did exist.
